Fuel & Temperature Gauges - Series 2

I managed to damage my fuel gauge needle also now looking for replacement. Still cant work out how. I still have speedo fault too.

I got mine new old stock from Geoff at Wins..silly money,about £40 something,pretty sure he's got loads!..fuel/temp gauge,that is!

Must be something catching about speedo R&R - just done mine and the temp/fuel gauge is dead. Based on 0v at the temp sender (ign on) I am guessing same as above - voltage stabilizer? Based pics above, can I assume its on the back of said gauge? I have a solid state unit ready to go in.

Not as easy as I had hoped... Speedo came back from recalibration lacking the white plastic insulator, didnt notice that, and now I have more damage to the circuit traces. The one to the gauge has previously been repaired, and now the line to the right turn indicator light is also burnt.
BUGGER!

In answer to original poster, there is a male spade tag on the back that provides earth via a black lead. Found a good dash&pcb locally, so its all back together now. Gauges all work, indicators also, so much happier now.

On my car the two big philips head screws at the left end of the panel poke through holes in a metal plate -should they have a large washer on them so they actually secure the panel to the plate? Its unclear from the parts book - it describes a washer there as 'double coil spring washer 1/4 dia'.The book says to 'remove 2 hex head bolts at each end and pull panel ..' - no hex head bolts in there that I have seen. 2 x 1/4 unf philips screws at left, 2 x smaller philips screws at rh end, facing forward.
Anybody seen these hex head screws?
