Front Seat Belts

Hi everyone! My new 1966 Series 1 P6 has a set of Britax diagonal-only front belts fitted. I am not in love with driving it much like that for obvious reasons and want to fit 3 point belts. The issue is that I am pretty sure the Britax belts are not mounted in the normal location: they are bolted through the floor using reinforcement plates, just behind the front seats. There is a lot of discussion on here about the mounting points for the rear belts but not the fronts. Would someone who has correct front belts be willing to snap a photo of how they are mounted (both the to the pillar and the tunnel)? Would much appreciate it as I am not able to find photos of this and would rather not go pulling trim to search for mounts that I may or may not have.

Cheers,
Karl

You have the mounting points, all P6s do. But to make things work, you will have to source some spacers from a donor car.

Hi Karl,

P6's always shipped with 3 point harnesses. Early cars had separate shoulder and lap belts. It sounds as though someone removed the lap belt portion of them on your car.

I am pretty sure that not all UK cars shipped with seat belts at all. Googling around I found

Britain required the fitting of seatbelt anchorage points in the front of new cars in 1967 (post-1965 cars had to be fitted with belts retrospectively)
From: Test your knowledge: When was wearing a seatbelt made mandatory for UK drivers?

My guess is that this car just had aftermarket belts. These belts are definitely the originals and only are two point diagonal-only. Take a look here: Britax car seat belts. . They are the ones in the second ad. There are no other obvious holes in the carpet or B pillar for belts to mount somewhere else. They are mounted two the floor with two bolts like the first frame. Is that the standard spot? I don't seem to find any other inertia belts that mount that way, including the ones supplied by MGBD and Wadhams. I assume there must be some other hole somewhere to mount them. That's what I'm asking about. Here are some photos from my car:

Note that I have pulled the strap back here, it runs straight up. This was just to show the carpet behind the belt.

Thanks Vern that helps, I'll look into spacers. But, what I'm really asking for where the mounting points are. Are they on the floor like the ones I have? Or are they mounted to the pillar? If they are on the pillar, are they in the carpeted section, or the plastic/vinyl section? There are no holes anywhere on the pillar in my car that I can find without pulling all the trim off so I was just hoping someone would take a picture of this area of their car and post it.

Thanks!
Karl

My 2000/2200 workshop manual shows the position of mountings I would think they would be fitted as it became legal in UK only a few years after launch

They are not mounted correctly like this. The factory mounting points are behind the B-C pillar trims.

I definitely need to get the workshop manual. I'm going to order it from the Rover P6 club on CD. Thanks!

I'll see if I can feel around and find the mount point by feel. I did find the mounts behind the rear parcel shelf for the back seats and pulled the trunk liner to verify from below.
