Some help needed please from those more knowledgeable about these things! Is the item shown between the two blue arrows the "distance piece" p/n 538797? or is this just part of the swivel pillar casting, and the distance piece is a separate part that slides on the stub axle? Our box of bits from when the car was dismantled doesnt appear to contain any such other part (on either L or R side) so we are wondering whether we never removed the piece and it is still there stuck on the end of the axle.

Many thanks for any clarity you may be able to impart ;-)

p.s. not sure whether this is my very first post! If it is, then "hello everyone" - i have been a lurker for many a year and your posts have proved invaluable to the restoration of my brothers P6 3500S to date. Cheers, Robp

I've seen that listed in the parts book as a spacer/distance piece but I don't ever remember seeing one that's actually separate from the pillar. The inner bearing sits up against that.

Thanks HarveyP6 that makes sense. I presume we will need to remove all the paint so that it is a smooth metal surface for the oil seal to run on.
