Flicking ammeter

I have now timed BOP's engine with a strobe & dwell meter & it is running extremely well! What has come as a surprise is that the wayward rev counter has become stable throughout virtually all the rev range. It only fluctuates very slightly at higher revs.

This must be down to getting the dwell angle pretty well spot on - something I've probably not previously checked properly on this car as it's always been the last on the list for the finer things in the restoration game....

Especially for those with a V8, I would wholeheartedly recommend getting a multi-meter with a dwell function & setting the angle correctly. It could transform your driving experience for not a lot of cash.

I know there are many seasoned experts on here, but like me there'll be many that bumble along to some degree, improving their cars as & when between driving them. One of the major benefits of this forum, of course ;)

Oh yes, I've also now got the new alternator control unit, so will fit that at the next opportunity!

Dirty points and suspect condenser ( the cause of dirty points ) will play havoc with a tach.

I've now fitted this & the ammeter is behaving itself. .......However, the rev counter started flicking literally between nil & the red line all the time o_O also, just for good measure the previously dead oil pressure gauge went straight to the max end of the scale

But then again, all of a sudden tonight both the rev counter & the oil pressure gauge are working fine:
