Flat (aka Symmetric) Beam Replacement Headlights ?

We tend to drive quite a bit in France and, once our P6 is fit and ready, we intend to start taking it over on the ferries from the UK. To avoid regularly applying & removing deflectors (or swapping RHD units for LHD each time) I've been searching for flat/symmetric dip headlights that I could just fit and leave alone. So far I'm not having any joy at all finding any suitable 5 3/4" flat dipping headlights and I suspect these simply don't exist due to very low demand (there are some LED ones but they're equipped with fancy sidelights & indicators etc). Before I give up and resign myself to using deflectors has anyone else been down this route and found any suitable headlight units?

Cheers, Mike

I'm afraid I can't help with your query, but I'd just like to opine that the optional extra yellow deflectors with little elastic hooked straps are very cool, and only take a minute or two to affix or remove! If you need a set I have some somewhere that I've never actually needed, albeit from memory missing one clip strap. Yours for beer money and the price of postage from London!

Years ago I had 7" Cibie headlamp units that you could change from LH to RH dip by rotating the bulb holder. The lenses were symmetrical.

These ones on ebay may have the same facility as the arrows on the lenses point both ways.

This may give you a lead on finding something that does the job.

Many thanks for the very kind offer and I'll bear it in mind in case I can't find a suitable headlight !

Thanks for the pointer which has sent me off down a few more rabbit holes. I've not found an equivalent in the 5 3/4" (146mm) size in the Cibie/Valeo range yet although it seems the twin headlights used on XJS & XJ40 were very similar and could bear fruit at some stage.

Aha - thanks @Vern Klukas :thumb:

Had a quick look and found the following. They're not traditional in appearance and might not be EU approved (the Colight ones may be) but they're worth a closer look. I can always swap them for EU approved ones if/when the car needs to go through a French contrôle technique.

The trick is to find a classic friendly CT station and not entirely sure most would be bothered anyhow. Once you have a collectors' registration, CT is only five yearly.
