Fitting Securon front seat belts.

Hi just bought a pair of securon 500/30 seat belts to replace the static ones on my series one and had a go at fitting them but I am having problems as I cannot seem to get the right clearance between the seat and the post. The brackets provided dont seem to make any difference.Im sure its me doing something wrong so just wondering has anyone else completed this task and can offer me advice.A pic of someones inertia reel seat belts would help.

Thanks
Tony Jenkins #thickie.

Normal Inertia belts dont fit series 1 cars. I seem to remember someone mentioning there is a slimline version. Is that what you've got? If you can get the later seats and swap them you'll obviously have clearance....

Rich.

Thanks for that.the ones I have are shown on Securon site as fitting all models 63/77 so I assume they must be the right ones.
Cheers
Tony

The anchorage points are on an angle and the inertia reel will not work unless it is perfectly upright. Now have even less hair aarrggh.Never mind, while seats are out I can give the carpet a good hoover and I have repaired the seat adjusters that were seized solid.Every cloud hey :x

A while ago i decided to try the slim Securon 500/30 inertia reel seatbelts, in order to replace the standard static seatbelts of my series 1 TC. To my surprise they are indeed slim, and by fitting one of the available brackets, bent a little, they push the reel against the B/C post trim cover, and they fit nicely without intefering with the front seat travel. The trick is to use the correct bracket and spacers from the selection, the bracket bent by the correct amount in such a way, that when the main bolt is tightened to the car's B/C post, the reel is pressed against the B/C post cover. This will allow for just enough space between the reel and the seat back, while the reel can still work normaly. Hopefully, the photos bellow will explain it a little better.

Thanks Demetris. That definitively answers that question and the advice given on some suppliers sites is in fact incorrect.

Got my belts today. Still wondering how they can make such nice quality belts for £22 a piece. They make the various Rover ones look cheap and nasty.

AFAIK as long as the fore/aft axis is vertical it should not matter if the lateral axis is slightly angled (as shown in photos) - the inertia locking is activated principally by fore/aft decelerations.

My Securons had to be vertical, their operation could be tested with a quick yank on the belt whilst stationary. My Rover ones needed for and aft vehicle movement. That's why I changed them, I didn't want to know that 42yr old safety belt mechanics had failed when the car stopped,

and I didn't....
