Fitting door speakers

Hi all,

I’d like to fit some decent speakers in the front (and if possible the rear) door cards. Has anyone got experience of doing this?

I have a couple of questions:

How do you run the wiring for the door speakers as there are no holes which cables in modern cars run through?

Do the speakers need something to sit in to stop them being water damaged?

Can speakers be fitted to the rear doors and if so, what about the wiring?

Has anyone got any experience of fitting an under seat sub?

Thanks in advance!

Door speakers in P6's really do nothing for the cars original design ethic and look ugly period.

There other other alternatives to door fitment and the audio quality is very good.

Here is my current install Speakers, and where to put them

The only thing you notice in my P6 is the front tweeters which are fairly innocuous, the rear parcels shelf speakers are generally covered with a woollen rug to keep the UV of the seat backs and parcel shelf Ambla.

The small centre consul speakers (Rectangular in shape) can be had in 20 watt versions or more to cope with higher power.

I opted at the time use good quality (well sort of) 3 and 4 way box speakers as it allowed me to tailor the drive to each of the component tweeters mid-range and bass speakers so that I could best resonate with the cars interior acoustics and with 18 speakers to play about with it worked out quite well.

PS if you want the ultimate in good sounding box speakers and if you can find them

nengun-189424-00-pioneer-box_speakers_ts-x11-0d4fdfb8e9.jpgthese are fantastic but probably hard to find in good going order ( didnt use them in my install as they sound far better in the house stereo system).

You could always try a set of Bluetooth Speakers the sound is amazing and you can remove them whenever you want to. Plus no horrible wires trailing all over the place.

somebody has fitted door speakers to me car .front only. winder handles rub against casing as too far out . be aware. water and condensation can get to speakers if not designed for door fitting. checked wires and was simply hole drilled in door and A pillar with grommet to suit .wire thread through . radio itself is rubbish as analogue and only gets 1 station decently and with engine running..too much static to be usable . so though it looks Ok . I was thinking or stripping out later and making new door cards . personally woudkl have avoided fitting as was never designed for door speakers.

Ive had front speakers in the doors from new.
They are 150mm diam with the covers removed.
Winder misses the unit nicely.

Seems like this subject is a fairly divisive one! I would have gone with rear parcel shelf speakers like Graeme suggested but as I have the large rear headrests and also seat belts the space on the back shelf is now very limited. Perhaps the best short term solution is to get a decent Bluetooth speaker I just have trouble believing that the sound quality could even come close to a properly installed car audio set up.

Possibly you will get some good sound from bluetooth speakers but you really need to look long and hard for good quality ones, I am sure they are out there via the likes of Aliexpress and similar.

I bought a set of 3 inch x 3 inch USB computer speakers in China a couple of years ago so I could get decent sound from my notepad which I was using in China at the time, solid aluminium tubular housing with decent air suspension speakers, the sound was unbelievably good from this micro setup. Couldn't for the life of me find the same unit from western retailers.

I have also fitted speakers in the front doors, and although they don't look too bad, in retrospect the installation can be improved.
If i would have been fitting them all over again from the start, i would screw them straight to the inner door panel, behind the door card, leave out completely the speaker grill cover, and have the vinyl of the door card perforated. In this way it won't look at all offensive. Alternatively use a plain round speaker grill, like the ones fitted to X300 Jaguars for example.
