Fitting an in line fuel filter

Thinking about installing an in line fuel filter between the reserve tap and the mechanical fuel pump on my SC.
Was wondering if anyone knows the male thread on the reserve tap? I'm planning to put a barb on it

I fitted an online fuel filter just above the mechanical pump on our P5B. I thought it was much easier to reach there and simpler to fit.

I think it it’s 1/4” npt, but don’t quote me on that. I mounted my filter between the pump and the carbs so it sits in front of the valve cover. Very easy to see if fuel flow has a problem or if there’s gunk in the line.

Why didn't your P5B have the standard filter arrangement fitted?
Yes it does, but I felt it might be a good idea to have an extra filter where I could see if it ever caught anything, plus also see if any air bubbles were coming through. I don't like to think that any muck might find it's way into the carbs. Perhaps I'm just a bit paranoid!

I fitted a filter on my 2200TC , between the pump and carbs. Used a replaceable element type used on early Range Rovers, mounted on the RH wing valance

Thanks forthe feedback all. I have found a supplier of Fuel compatible nylon hose here in Aus. They supply fittings as well so it looks like I'm in business. Found this reference useful however I'm not sure if it goes down far enough

Hi guys anyone got any photos of there fuel filer upgrade I would like to do this but have the old hardened plastic pipe with the fittings compress to the pipe both ends the only way I could see doing this was to go to a rubber pipe and I really didn’t want to do that so any info much appreciate cheers

I cut my nylon line and used two short pieces of rubber with clamps. Been on the car for a few years and seems fine. You can see it next to the battery in front of the cylinder head

Thank you Sdibbers
I understand that should help keep the carburettor nice and clean
Any kind of anything gets in to my carb and it runs like a bag of nails a worthwhile investment I think
Also saves you from getting stuck somewhere when you have a bit of grit stuck in the carb
Nothing more frustrating always happens when you have no tools on you :(
Nice Tidy Engine Bay you have there old son and inner wings Gloss black Very Nice

I like this position for the filter. Very easy to see if the pump isn’t working as it should and if the filter has become blocked.

Engine bay I cleaned up a few years ago. You can read about it half way down this page. Getting back on the road

Me to the filter position works well, and I am sure I can get mine in front like yours thank you,
Also thanks you for your post of your amazing P6
So much info there and hard work amazing job and really helpful information on things I wish to do loads of reading on your car, I will be up late
tonight :) As I see it dates back to 2014 then to page 19

Thanks! Yep, it’s been a bit of a journey with Beryl, but she’s coming along nicely.
