I havent been on for a while
home and work commitments have meant my p6 had been shelved.
i dont know if any of you guys remember me im up in the north east i posted a few pics last summer ive got a 1968 2000 sc auto in white RTN70F
Shes been in storage at a mates unit for 6 months and started first time of asking 2 weeks ago
I have now spent the last 2 weeks stripping off all the panels and interior
an essential step as the paintwork leaves a lot to be desired and it gives me an opportunity to investigate any nasties lurking beneath
the skeleton is in surprisingly good nick with only minor surface rust above the rear internal arches and evidence of water ingress along the top of the front screen. Nothing a wire wheel cant sort
I will have to source some clips for the headliner theyre shot and possibly a screen rubber
the inner cills have been replaced in a previous restoration project to a good standard so no problems there
the panels are off to a paintshop next week. He comes highly recommended and at £700 to prep and paint seems not hard to pay either.The front wings were fibreglass and the rears rotten through top and bottom but ive managed to source rust free steel replacements for all 4 for £60 happy days !!
when i removed the carpets i found there was significant water damage to the drivers footwell carpet an im struggling to locate the source. The doorseals seem intact although i noticed before removing the doors that the alignment wasnt brilliant. I seem to recall reading somewhere about a rubber insert that fits toward the front of the door to stop the water channels from the roof overflowing into the cabin is that correct? input appreciated.
I cant find any issues relating to getting her through an MOT except the exhaust is shot so its bite the bullet an shell out on a stainless system and bang it through
the radiator needs a recore theres coldspots and evidence of several repairs over time
im lead to believe a recore is about £250 and an exhaust is about £350
So cross fingers thats her back on the road with a gleaming new paintjob for less than 1500 quid including a service
There are other things to be addressed such as i need a new rear bumper (virtually rotten through) and the carpets will have to go and i would really like leather trim seats and new doorcards but that lot and other niggly things can wait till i can source them and got the folding stuff to pay for them
probably like the rest of you id like to get my rover back to something like she was when she rolled off the production line but cash time sourcing bits and a desire to use her are going to get in the way
im glad to have the project live again and am looking forward to getting her back on the road for the summer

oh! one question can anyone recommend the best sealant when putting the roof back on it seems to be some kind of nonsetting mastic
