Exhaust Sound of a Rover 5000TC

Bet it sounds even better under load

Hi Grim,
funny that you should mention how it sounds under load. I've been planning on shooting another video as the car is driven by the camera, then backing off on the pedal while in a low gear. The exhaust note under these conditions is wicked.

Today I had the very good fortune to meet up with Tom and see the 5000TC in person; better yet, I got to go for a ride in it :D To say that is sounds better under load is an understatement - it sounds like a bag of angry badgers, each and every one of them wishing to murder you - it's a marvelous sound, better than that it's f****** awesome.

I have no idea what speeds we reached, let's just say we were marginally above the posted limit in Tom's neighborhood and leave it there...

Tom's car is a thing of beauty - I thoroughly enjoyed my visit to deepest darkest Los Angeles; however, if truth be told, all I remember was going for a hoon in that magnificent beast. Thanks Tom.

mines got buick 300 and that twists body too--other problem is trying to pull away from traffic lights without wheelspin :D :D pity rover did not get the 300 to begin with mate.

Are there any photos of it?

I had posted a lot of detailed photos with my original post but now see they are all deleted. Is there some sort of time limit? I also posted some photos of the underside in my description of the XJS diff that I fitted recently. Also I note that a few messsages earlier another Forum member posted some photos that were taken when I had the car on display at Queen's English, an annual Los Angeles British car show.

My most recent project involved completely rebuilding the front end of the motor, relocating the alternator, the p/s pump, and the external oil pump in order to fit an a/c compressor. I'll couple that with an original Rover a/c evaporator/blower unit. This will make the car driveable in the hot SoCal summer months.

They aren't supposed to disappear. It definitely think the files are missing though I've just checked. I'm confused by this. I'll see if i can work it out and come back to you.

Rich.

just checked and my backup doesnt have them either. :?

Oh, oh. Maybe someone didn't like my destruction of the purity of Rover;-) At any rate is there a next step? Maybe I can somehow redo the email with new pics, assuming I can find them again in my files.

Very interested in your Air installation,. Vintage Air has some great components including unobtrusive under-dash units and brackets for mounting compressors...

best!

Yes, Vintage Air does offer some nice hardware. My installation, which is still a work in progress, will be an almalgam of Vintage Air products and an original Rover Delenaire (sp?) in-cabin evaporator/blower unit. I've rebuilt the evaporator, installed a new expansion valve, and leak tested it. Also had to rebuild the blower motor and fit a new resistor to get the 3 speeds for the motor.

Under the bonnet will be the Sanden A7 compressor (already installed), a Vintage Air condenser, along with the other stuff like hi-pressure cut off switch, receiver drier, hoses and fittings, etc. The 'under the bonnet' arrangement won't be of much use to anyone else because it will all be unique to the Ford V8.

I've made space by eliminating the heater box, something I don't need here in SoCal, not only because the weather never gets all that cold, but because the 300 hp Ford motor cranks out a lot of heat. Even though I insulated the passenger's compartment well, it still gets hot in there.

But should you be interested in what I'm doing, I'll be happy to post some photos as the work progresses.
Cheers,
Tom
