Engine Stops - Just stops

Can you read the question below and then post your first Gut reaction.

Monday; After a week of not running started her up. Ran for 2 minutes and then stopped. No coughing or splutering just stopped. Started her up again and ran her to a friends house. Drove her around and probably did 6 or 7 miles and took her home and parked her up.
Thursday; Started first turn of the key and within a minute she was running without choke. Drove 3/4 mile and she stopped. Managed to turn into a garage forecort and then struggled for about ten minutes to start her. She did start and i drove her back home and parked her up.

Question; Fuel or electrics?
If fuel why does she stop so suddenly, no coughing or that "i want to keep running but just can't" before stopping.
If Electrics what is likely to cause the symptons.

Help;
She's got 1/2 a tank of petrol. She's running on the main fuel tap.
She's not running poorly at high revs
Choke is normally back in within a minute or so and doesn't misfire at low revs or high.
Fuel filter under the bonnet is clear and clean.

Assitance greatfully received.

Normally cutting out "dead" would be electrics
Check all the connections on your coil , ignition switch etc
Have you got electronic ignition or any immobilisers / alarms fitted ?

Might be worth fitting a new rotor arm as there are some duff ones about and maybe a new coil

Next time it dies and won't start, test for a spark at the plugs and fuel flow to the carbs

No fancy electronics. As she rolled off the production line.

Will try plugs, condensor and coil.

Interested to know the best plugs, points and which coil to get.

Alan,

I had a similar problem and it turned out to be the ignition switch, start the engine and wiggle the key about, when it happened on mine wiggling the key killed the engine.

Well.
One set of points replaced. One condensor.

Started and sounded like a bag of nails. I think at one point i had 2 pots working....

Adjusted and sorted out. Runs like a good un.

Only done 5 miles since but she hasn't done what she would have done 4 times before fitting them.

Thanks to those that helped. She's on Youtube if you're interested.
