When my 2000 sc engine reaches operating temperature there is a rattling noise at about 3000 revs, when I am doing about sixty it comes in but if I accelerate past this the rattle goes off.It sounds more like a bottom end type noise but I dont understand why it goes off past these revs if so.Before I start stripping it down etc I would be grateful for any suggestions as to what it may be? Im thinking about putting shell bearings in But wonder if this will only be a short term cure any help wouyld be great thanks gary

Sounds suspiciously like the 'ol timing chain. Usually a hollow sort of ringing which will disappear if you increase the revs. May be wrong of course but worth getting it listened to. Can't imagine any sort of bottom end rattle (mains & big ends) that you could make disapper by increasing the revs! But no doubt someone will disagree! :(
