Electric fuel pump

Hi guys and gals,

About 6 months ago I replaced my mechanical fuel pump with an electric one. Yesterday it failed.
I ordered a new one yesterday and it arrived today. After fitting it the car ran perfectly, with one slight problem. Fuel is now p*ssing from the float chambers.
All I can think of is that the pressure is too high. ( The instructions do not stipulate where the pump should be fitted).
At present, the pump is fitted under the bonnet. Would it make a difference if I fitted it nearer the fuel tank?

Thanks for any advice.
Clive

Which pump is it? Nearly every one apart from the Huco or SU type will need a regulator as the SUs need less than 3 psi. Facet types are pushers (mostly), Hucos are suckers.

Thanks for the info Peter.
It is a generic fuel pump, not necessarily for a p6. I just needed one quickly.
I am going to re-fit the pump at the tank tomorrow and see if it helps.
Otherwise, do you know where I could get a regulator?

Actually Peter, forget the stupid question. I just looked on eBay, and found loads.

Yes as you found, almost any tuning supplier will have them.

It has been discussed before on this forum, the easiest solution is the Huco pump which is inexpensive and a direct swap for the mechanical one without a regulator. As it sucks from the engine bay, it allows you to keep the fuel reserve as well. Another bonus is I've never heard of one failing.

Ich habe gerade gemerkt, dass du deutschsprachig bist.
Also, vielen Dank fuer die Infos die during mir gegeben hast.

I followed Peter´s advice for the Hüco pump and it looks like a real solid one. Best thing, you need no pressure regulator, as cheap ones tend to fail. But, be careful, Hücos are also available as pushers (to be mount near tank), so make sure, you will get a sucker type. My problem was to get one in general, it wasn´t that easy, I had to look a little bit.
One alternative is Burlen in the UK, THE specialist for SU, Amal etc carbs and all components around. They offer SU pumps with low pressure, so also no need for a pressure regulator and also available as sucker to be mounted in the motor-bay. Also great for all SU parts and informations around English carbs.
