Electric fuel pump

Hi all,
I have took the plunge and decided to fit a Facet electric fuel pump to my V8. I was wondering if anyone has fitted one, did you fit it in the engine bay or near the fuel tank ?, how did you route the petrol pipe to and from the pump ?, did you fit an electrical cut off switch for safety ?, where did you take the electrical feed for the pump from ? fuse box coil etc. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

The previous owner of my car fited one up under the rear seat. i.e. on the outside of the car, but bolted down through the metal under the drivers side rear squab.

He routed the pipework in such a fashion that he kept the reserve tank, by moving the reserve switch and fitting a longer reserve cable.

The only problem is that as it is on the outside of the car, it is noisy. I may move it one day, when I get the chance.

The power is now (after a lot of work on my part) taken from the battery through a relay fired by the live on the back of the heated rear windscreen switch. It is probably better to fire the relay from the ignition fuse as this will only turn the pump on when the ignition is on, and not like mine when the auxillary is on.

The wire from the ignition is usually white, (well it is on mine) but check your wiring diagram first

Hi

You can get the pumps quiet cheap on E Bay. Do you need a pressure regulator as well and did you keep the fuel return pipe connected ?

My pump delivers between 6 and 8 psi, and the Weber carb likes a maximum of 5 psi, and 3 psi for normal road use.

So, yes a regulator is needed.

I don't know how much a pair of SUs will take.

There is no return pipe on mine.

hi yes here is a pic where i stuck my fuel pump under Neath the coil and it works a treat don't look at anything else the engine bay is getting painted soon

Many thanks Gareth P6 for the picture, how have you connected the fuel lines from the pump to the car. Is yours a series one V8? like mine.

hi yea mine a is series 1 v8 wot i done is ran the petrol pipe from the back of the engine to the inner wing to a hole then to the fuel pump then straight to the fuel filter to the carbs since i have done that i have had no problems with mine at all but wot i did ran a switch so i can knock of the pump all together so when it is not in use or if anything happenes i can cut of the fuel altogether hole this helps you out
