Dutch Rover V8 "4600" - (former 2200TC topic)

After lots of thinking, I've come to the decision to sell this car.

There's a good reason for that, I now own this:

An early 70s V8, originally delivered in New Zealand. It has been fitted with a rebuilt 4.6L Range Rover V8 and it's smooooooooth. Overall in great condition, running on LPG, lovely paint and a smashing red interior with Webasto sunroof.
.
wow what a corker! looks solid alright

I had a 2200 TC for five years and absolutely loved it, it all came to an enmd with the sills needed doing though

originally delivered in New Zealand? and now its in Holland? how did it make that journey?

do you know what happened to the car's 3500 engine?

This is a very solid car, never has been welded.

I love my 2200 a lot, but there's just something about a V8 isn't there? :p

The car was deliverd in New Zealand, it drove around for many many years in the village where the former owner grew up as a child. He's Dutch but was born over there. The owner before him imported it to The Netherlands in the early 2000s, don't know exactly why. I have all the original documentation with the car, starting from new.

The 3500 lump that came in the car was taken out in favor of this one. Not that there was anything wrong with it, but this is just more modern, reliable and powerful! I believe the guy still has it in his garage. He offered me to buy it (along with the original gearbox etc) but I gently declined as I have no use for it. The guy still has A LOT of Rover parts (ranging from 2000 to 3500 parts, bodywork/mechanics/interior/enginges/gearboxes, which he is parting with.

I got the oppertunity to purchase this, and couldn't pass on it. The problem with my 2200 is that I simply just don't have the time to work on it. That means that it, and all the spares I have (including full black leather boxpleat interior in great shape, set of good Rostyles) will be for sale soon.

Wow,
Few more pics please !

New Zealand built P6's generally speaking are pretty much rust free unless they have not been garaged or cared for as they should be!

Great looking car.

Hey Pepijn!

Right now the car still is in the garage box... But there has been some progress! Good you've pushed this thread up, gives me a reason to post some more.

Last year I pulled the engine, which is now sitting on an engine stand next to the car. I'm planning on fully re-gasketing it anyway, but I'm still indecisive if I shouldn't get it fully rebuild. It'll cost a few euro's, but since I'm not planning on ever selling the car...

The carbs have been rebuild and are sitting on the shelf.

Apart from that I quite recently aquired a lot of parts for a very good price! A full black leather interior which is cleaning up just lovely. A set of good P6 Rostyles which will look great on the car. And last but not least an array of NOS suspension parts and rebuild kits for the brakes, clutch etc... Quite the score!

Here some pictures of hauling the interiors out of some of his cars, and the first cleaning and caring results. Sadly I haven't taken any pics of the Rostyles or other parts.

The plans for the Rover? Firstly, rebuild my Royal Enfield which is in need of big maintenence. Since that's a smaller project (both time and money-wise) I'm tackling that first, just recently gave my Moto Guzzi V35 Imola a big overhaul as well. After the Enfield is running again, the work on the Rover wil commence!

just been reading the post from the start, very interesting indeed.
Noticed that all the pictures up to now were seriously blurred, and this is the first set crystal clear....well done.
Did you buy a new camera, if so, what make.....
Peter

Hi Peter! All the photos that have been posted a few years ago were hosted on Photobucket. Sadly this group of bastards completely scrapped their free hosting services, which causes all of the uploaded photos to be blurred! Don't want to go through the trouble of re-uploading all those photos on another website... Most pics you see here will have been made on my phone, some middle class Huawei from a couple of years ago. :)

Thanks for the reply!

Great looking car.

Thanks so much! This one has been fully repainted a couple of years ago and needed no welding. There are some very tiny areas that could do with some touching up, but apart from that...

She lives here right now, together with my 3 motorcycles and tools. It's crowded, but it fits! ;)

It's been quite a while since I posted here! Enjoyed the car quite a lot. Not driven a crazy amount of kms, but hey... ;) To start things, here's two more pictures of the car from a while back. Doesn't it look good? After that, I do have a question for you lot...:)

When I got the car, it was fitted with an Alfa 156 driver's seat. Although it was red leather, it didn't match perfectly and it was of course an Alfa seat... I looked for an original replacement for a while, but it's near impossible to find bits for a red interiour. However, I did get the chance to purchase a full cream interior for a small amount of money. The driver's seat was in okay condition so I tried colouring it with vinyl paint. The results, if I may say so, aren't too shabby. It's not perfect, but it has been a nice job to do and it's a lot better than the Alfa seat that was in there!

Now, not all's good. My speedo doesn't work! I currently have the dash pulled. I can see that the cable spins freely, for a couple of kms. After that it just stops... When I hook it up to the dashboard, it doesn't do a thing. I already checked at the overdrive (where it's fitted) and I can't see anything out of the ordinary there. Any tips perhaps?

Like the black incarnation. Are those Jensen wheels? Interesting twin tailpipes on the silver car.
