drop the box

Can someone please tell me, can I drop the rear mount of my trans, sufficiently enough, without disconnecting the d/shaft, to allow access to the bolts that hold the gearshift linkage to the top of the trans?
There is one of the three bolts left I can not seem to get a tool to.
Thanks Karl

Hi, Yes you can. However you need to put the fan on the front of the engine in a certain position otherwise it can damage the rad, or take it off if it makes you happier. Also you might have to disconnect the throttle linkage and check the reserve tap doesn't get damaged. It's been a while since I've worked on the auto's, so perhaps Harvey can confirm or deny.

The assymetric design of the fan gives uneven spacing between the blades, so get the two widest apart blades at the bottom which leaves a single blade at the top which will come up as the engine is dropped back until it hits the fan shroud and stops the engine going back too far.

Yes, disconnect the horizontal link. It shouldn't drop back too far if you follow the procedure outlined above. It's the 3500S that seems to break the reserve tap not the auto as I remember it.

every thing went to plan yay
I have removed the gear shift mechanism and removed the compensator to find the stiffness caused by the rust and lack of lubricant
Cleaned up and will get some new locknuts, only for the reason I lost a couple, oops.
Ill reassemble tomorrow night.
Thanks guys again
