Drive it Day at the RAF Museum on 22 April nr M1 Junc 4

Amazingly the weather was not too bad with some long periods of excellent bright sunshine over the RAF Museum.

Despite cancellations due to mechanical problems, rust in the sills, last minute holidays and the like 51 people turned up on Drive it Day 2012. Twelve seniors, 32 adults and 7 under 17's. They came in 20 classic rovers, 3 modern cars and on public transport with 2 P6 owners using British rail and London underground to get there.

I am told the roast beef lunch in the Wing's restaurant was excellent. I just had a bowl of soup as I am still being a little careful after my recent holiday!

Below are some photos starting with "We're here" followed by "Outing to the RAF Museum which only shows some of the cars as I did not have a wide angle lens! So I have included after that individual photos of each of the wonderful Roivers that came along followed by "The shop" and "That nice little Mascot"

I had a superb day. Even lent out my screw drivers and got them back!

I hope everyone who came along enjoyed themselves.

Our next outing after our get together at 8pm at the Case is Altered on Tuesday 8 May is to the superb Enfield Pageant of motoring where we have a display stand for 10 cars on each of for Saturday and Sunday 26th and 27th May. Sunday is full ut there are still 3 places left on Saturday. If you want one of them (P6s only at Enfield) please contact me asap.

Best Wishes

P.S. I will shortly be booking next years Drive it Day outing but won't mention where it is on the forum in case some other club beats me to it and books it first! If I am successful next years drive it day will be a similar hard standing venue with a museum to go round if the weather is bad.

Here are the photos:

Wow,

It wasn't until the second to last photo (looking back at the original building and the rescue boats) that I recognized the place. I know they have done a lot of building in that area, but Graham Park has really changed. I was born right up the street from the RAF Museum and grew up in Hendon - great to see all those luverly Rovers at the RAF Museum. One of these days I'll finish the Wild Rover and put it on a boat so it can join in the fun too.

Alan.

great pics tony as always
Shame i couldnt join you :-( can you pm me and let me know what days you have me down for at the enfield pageant please.

That's the last picture of my P5B with that particular yellow foglamp as some lowlife hit the front of her yesterday & destroyed it along with the grill & & o/s overrider. The bumper is also out of bonk on the joints but may straighten up. Whoever did it gave her quite a clump considering they would have only been parking in front of her & since I found broken perspex of the flat, clear headlight variety around, they may even have driven rather than reversed into her. Annoyingly it happened outside our house in a three hour gap when another of our cars wasn't in the vacant space.
Luckily I have another grill, overrider & a few spare lamps too, though not yellow ones.

Sorry to hear that TRM.. You seem to be having some rotten luck lately what with bruiser and all. Hope your luck picks up

Thanks. Well, someone signing themselves a 'wellwisher' put a note through the door earlier identifying the model of car which they witnessed causing the damage to my 'supercar' & which house they were visiting (the one directly opposite us), so I'll pay them a visit later. Not sure if I'll receive any compensation but I'll derive some satisfaction from knowing that they know that they were clocked doing the deed. Whether the people opposite knew about it too & are keeping schtoom, I couldn't say.
However, it looks like their friends have the same parking abilities as our neighbours themselves, which are lamentable.
