Down the plug-hole?

Just wondering, did any P6 suffer the indignity of the Leyland badge on the front wing in the same way triumph did?

My memory seems to suggest some did but the evidence of the survivors says no.... Perhaps they fell off in shame or I could simply be wrong.

Nope. The only give away is the engine bay sticker which reads "The Rover Company Limited, Solihull, Warwickshire" with the Royal appointment heraldry on pre 72-ish models, and "Rover, British Leyland UK Limited" on later cars.

I'd noticed this too. No Range Rover, P5 or P6 ever ended up with the BL cattle-brand yet the Triumphs did. Somone at Canley not as forthright as those at Lode Lane?

That said, my ignition key has the BL logo on it.

I have seen late 3500s where the chassis number is stamped on the inner wing with the leyland logo at the end - also on the ignition key.

Mine has the leyland logo cast into the alloy alternater bracket bolted to the R/H head :D

Yes they do don't they! If my memory serves me correctly, the Leyland logo was also cast into the OEM water pumps.

The Australian market Rovers carry a metal registration plate which is riveted to the nearside inside guard within the engine bay. Amongst other information, it states that this vehicle was manufactured by the Leyland Motor Company of Australia.

My under bonnet slam panel label .
This label always intrigued me . Rovers weren't manufactured in OZ . Either imported fully built up from blighty or ex NZ , yet they had the balls to claim homemade in Australia .

Hi Gerald,

My Leyland plate was dated some 3 months before the car left the factory. The Australian market cars do have slight differences to those sold in the U.K, as they need to meet the Australian design rules. The black plastic door mirrors fitted to the 1976 models was one such requirement.

Maybe the Leyland plant in New Zealand was a subsidiary of Leyland Australia. :?

The plastic sleeve that retains the owner's manual that came with my Rover is emblazoned with Leyland Australia across the front.

It's probably a good thing Rover never fitted the BL 'swirly' badges...!!!

It is strange how Triumphs have them though being a premium product and all that! I took mine off of my Toledo (not such a premium product!!!) pretty sharpish as I just don't like the look of them...

I love the small triumphs. I'd say a Toledo as stripped down as is it is pretty "premium" compared to a Morris Marina, Allegro or Escort.

In fact I was its quite interesting to speculate how much better in the Leyland group a Morris Marina based on the small triumph would have been rather than making it out of bits of recycled Morris Minor. However I think the merger came a bit late for that.

The small Triumphs are very nice indeed...!!! I do like my Toledo and I'd say it is nailed together better than a Marina

Hi, interesting, one of the Marinas biggest failings was the triumph gearbox!

Wasn't it just, and added to that stupid arrangement for retaining the clutch slave cylinder made it a match made in.....
