Different steering box types.

I have a 1972 2000. I have been slowly going through the car since I bought it. I just went to check the oil level in the box and found that what I assume is the filler hole was missing its bung and there is no obvious sign of oil !!! It has been driving ok, but a bit heavey at parking, I assumed that was normal.
I have two spare boxes which on examination are slightly different. The first pic is as the one on my car, the second has a different oil filler hole and adjuster. The overall dimensions look similar.STP83819.JPGSTP83820.JPG
Two questions: how much oil should the box have and secondly can anyone identify which is the correct box or are they interchangeable.
By way of background, my car had 4 new or replacement boxes fitted in the first 2 years of its life!!!
Thanks in anticipation

Aren't the earlier type Adwest and the later ones Burman? I believe the earlier type are thought to be superior. The lower type looks like that on my 1970 car.

Then there are different types, the 4 cylinder is 3.75 turns and the V8 4.5.

I believe they are all completely interchangeable as the connecting linkages are all the same part numbers. (except PAS but these are known to be interchangeable too).

Either box will fit, IIRC a 2000 of that year would have the box in the lower pic fitted, the 2200 got the later flat topped box similar to the V8, but I'm by no means certain of the time of the changeover.
Fill both boxes to the top with EP90.

I have put some oil in it and transferred the missing bung from the spare box to the one in the car, and have just been for a test drive. If anything on the straight it feels like there is a bit more resistance, feels just a bit less vague. But at slow speed for parking it is much easier!!!!! But I can't find any info about how much oil it should take. I topped up with EP90 GL4 as per my manual.
