De Dion Elbows & RH Rear Lower Arm

Hi all,

The more I delve into Rebekah, the more I'm convinced the car's been pretty much neglected over the years although maybe not driven too hard.

Latest is the RH rear lower arm that's missing a good bit of metal round the rear bush location..and it looks like it's been ground away!

Does anyone have a decent replacement arm for sale?

Also the elbows are getting pretty thin, and perforated in a couple of places, at the lower arm locations.

Anybody have a decent pair going?

If anybody had these and was going to Rugeley, that would be ideal!

Cheers,

Would 3500S parts fit? I could try and track down the guy I sold Battlestar Galactica to, I know he's still got it, not yet parted it out. Mind you, the car's all in one piece at the moment, and the base unit and much of the bodywork were 99% rust and only 1% steel when I last saw it, 2 years ago...

Thanks ER,

The elbows are certainly common. I always thought the lower arms were too, but I'm not 100% on this now. The 2000 Parts Books I've got are from 1963 and 1974 and give the arm assembly numbers as 534825 and 548642 respectively (inc. bushes), whereas the V8 Book I've got (1977) gives the number as 570495.

Could just have been a re-numbering exercise by Rover of course (as they did with shocks) and they'd all fit OK.

Anyone know for sure?

V8 and 2000 lower arms are different, and the most likely reason that arm is ground away is that an elbow has failed, and the arm has dropped and ground itself away on the road.

Makes you wonder who put that back on in that state

I have a complete rear suspension set up for a 4 cylinder car; Marcus gave it to me to stop it going in the skip.

It's at work on the top of the flam store at the moment, so if you want some parts Stan, let me know.

What parts on it are common with the V8?

Elbows and de dion tube are the same, lower arms, pinion crossmember and toplinks are different. But having said that, you said "4 cylinder car" and on the 2200 it's all the same as the V8 except the toplinks.

Cheers Harvey, it's from a 1976 2.2TC, so most of it will fit Sparky.

Sorry Stan, but the lower arms won't fit Rebekah.

I'll see if I can take some photos tomorrow and email them to you.

Hi Richard,

Many thanks! I'd really appreciate both elbows if they're decent and, with Harvey's caveat, the RH lower arm as above. Plus one of the top links if the bushes are in good nick. I've not got round to the tube on mine as yet so I'll have a look at it this week - you might want to keep that as a spare for Sparky though.

Think the springs on mine are OK, but obviously not really tried them out yet.

I could come up to collect this coming weekend if that suits?

Cheers mate,

Think you're spot on with that Harvey. The OS elbow has had a bit of repair work done on the lower location at some time in the past.

Shame the arm didn't as well!

A pair of good elbows now sourced and I'll be picking them up at Rugeley.

My thanks to Nick Dunning! :D

Still on the lookout for a RH Rear Lower Arm if anyone has one :?:
