Isn't that going to cost more than it's worth to restore at commercial rates ?

Hi,

Thankfully that’s not always the primary consideration……

It’s kind of like saying to an amateur golfer “surely you’re never going to win enough at this game to cover the costs of your equipment, club membership etc….”

Money isn’t what it’s about

I agree. The gent wishes to use it as a daily runner when completed, and has specific ideas what specs he wants. What he could really do with in due course is a replacement Mango interior in excellent condition. Right money will be paid for the right interior, if one is out there.

Cheers
Nick

What an interesting car, glad its being restored.....its not always about making money...thank god otherwise so many cars would never have a chance if this was the case......well done to the owner :D

Seconded, what a brilliant specimen it'd be to own! The brochure heritage is very cool 8)

Interesting project and really do hope you find the time to keep us posted please Nick. Hope it is the one in the brochure as this would make it an extra worthwhile project. Apart from the considerable evidence you already have, is there anything else you can do to be sure?

And, no one has asked if you found any old tennis balls in the boot!! :D

I need to see the factory registrations book of the time, which will hopefully have a name the car went to. Also I need to check if there were a batch of Scarab Blue /Mango cars. I get a feeling there weren't.

Heritage have been closed for renovations, and despite me trying, no opportunity has come up to gain a visit yet (they're only open office hours). More to follow.

No. The owner has approached Virginia's agent, but no reply has been forthcoming from them about the car.

[/Isn't that going to cost more than it's worth to restore at commercial rates ?quote]

People pay millions for a picture of some sunflowers or half a pickled sheep, value is in the eye of the beholder....................personally I'd rather spend a few grand on a Rover. :D :D

It would be great if it does turn out to be the Brochure car (especially as that particular one is one of my favourite P6 brochures).
Well worth saving, though shame in a way that it's not being restored exactly as it was (regarding engine ect), but that's just me. It's still great that it's being done at all of course.

For some reason, I always thought that the Virginia Wade car was actually silver. ISTR a magazine article or advert mention it some years back. It or I could well be wrong though.....

Any information would be interesting - reason being is that the car has a lot of silver paint in places. The owner thought it may have been silver at one point. It certainly built blue.

Have you got a Heritage certificate for your car? - if it was dispatched from Rover in 01/73 it must have sat somewhere for six months. There can be all sorts of reasons.

If it spent six months at Rover that would be very unusual.

I can check when I finally get there if we get the details together.

Cheers
Nick

thanks nick
I only found out when it came off the production line i didnt get the full certificate but want to. If you could find out for me that would be great. Pm me if you need any info from me thanks! :D

Looks an interesting project :D

If it was always about having equity at the end, I would almost have no work at all

Indeed. Update to this is the welding to the car is now about 85% complete, it's turning into a work of art.

Completion of welding by Xmas a strong possibility.

The owner is doing the engine himself (he is an aircraft engineer) and the car will have a Jag transmission and LSD, our major part of the project is the body (including paint) and braking, as well as fitting it all together. This is going to be a superb car.
