Good morning all

I purchased a fan belt and air filter for my P6 from an ebay seller

The air filter shown was shiny and new sitting on top of it`s box

The filter I received was a different make, grubby and wrapped inside a plastic bag which smelt of petrol when it was opened, the filter also had a tear in one of the paper pleats

Given that it was described as brand new, unused and unopened item I requested a return outlining the reasons why

Message received from the supplier is below :

"Have to say this is one of the most stupid requests we have dealt with in nearly ten years of ebay trading. An air filter 'damaged ' because one of the paper pleats is ripped takes you to the top of the leader board !! Item is brand new and fully functional but we will take it back , refund and amuse ourselves with your comments ! Thanks"

Is it just me being too picky?

Unbelievable. There are some right jokers out there selling on eBay. The item was absolutely NOT as described. If I were you I would get my refund first and then immediately lodge an official complaint about the dealer with eBay making sure you include their ridiculous response. This is not just because they deserve to be complained about, but because it will stop them doing the same to someone else.

Customer service is obviously your number one priority

I am very surprised that no offer was made to supply a replacement which is what I would expect a quality supplier such as yourself to do?

Your listing suggests a new filter will be supplied in it`s box, it doesn`t clarify that if it is new it will have sat on a dusty shelf for 30 years collecting as much contamination as it can

Damage is damage as far as I am concerned, yes the filter is perfectly serviceable but I already have one of those fitted to my car which curiously has the same petrol smell, I expected a brand new filter with no damage

No matter which angle you look at this from the item is not as described

I will not, however, be sending it back for a refund, you would probably sell it on to some other unfortunate customer.

I will put it on to my own dusty shelf in case it ever becomes the only one left in the world, the only scenario in which I would ever consider fitting it

did you take photos?

The point of an air filter is to stop dust and grit getting in to the carbs and engine if it is torn it isnt filtering.

not sure it is worth giving them negative feedback they could respond and say you are expecting too much and they offered you a refund. but it is a very rude reply to recieve without them actually asking for a picture or clarification.

I did take photos but as has been said, he knew the condition when he sent it
