Cue bush jokes. Saturday Smut... (BW65 sloppy shifter)

Had the problem for a little while, but in a nutshell the shifter on my BW65 box'd car is very loose and there is a lot of "slop" between where the shifter sits for different gears. We had the car up on the hoist and couldn't see anything wrong, so I think that part number 571933 has probably broken, allowing the shifter to slop around in it's mount.

Anyone else had this problem? I was hoping to avoid having to try and take the centre console out, as I gave up last time after I realised how hard it was on an Australian air-con car, but it's gotten so bad now that action is needed.

part number can be found here Automatic Gearbox / Gear Selector & Linkage 2.jpg

Hi Geoff,

The selectors that have been attached to the 65 Tx that I have moved have all been very firm, with no slop at all. Something certainly sounds amiss.

Hi.
Replaced my dad's Bush on his type 35 for the same fault, also had movement side to side aswell.
Once removed Bush fell apart.
Got to be worth checking.
Clive.

The bush is the plastic cup the gear lever sphere sits in.
Its obviously lasted 40 odd years .
You will have to remove the centre console.
My bush fell to pieces and ended up on the garage floor . The only reason I found out, was when I had that sloppy movement and went looking under the car. Its an easy fix and its all done through the top , under the console. Unfortunately . Take it easy getting the console out with that A/C. Mine has A/c too - although factory integrated.
You need to get the console to move forward to get the hand brake cover off . So anything forward of the end of the console need to come out .Bugger I know.

I think I've still got a barely used one in the workshop, it probably only did a couple of thousand miles. You can have it for nothing if you want to pay for posting it to Australia..

It will be the later 599624 that I have. Sorry I forgot to check earlier, I was caught up doing the wishbones on my Volvo. I know I still have it, its just finding where exactly :)

Coolby. If you find it in the next few days, great! if not, I need windscreen seals as well so I'll get it through Mark Grey. :)

I found one last week but it looked so discolored it could only have been my original worn one. I kinda gave up looking after that as I thought it must have gone, but I found it today- still installed in the shifter assembly of course.. Too late?
