I am just getting going on this again

The idea is to make a dragster type custom that looks and sounds like the Black impala on Supernatural but with a bit more British reserve :)

This rather aggressive looking thing has been on ebay for most of the year so I made an offer and now it's mine :D

I could just go out and buy a small block chevy V8, but this has a gen IV L99 - 6.2L with 400bhp in stock trim and easy to tune to much more.

With this, I have the engine, gearbox, radiator, starter, ECU, wiring loom, propshaft, nice pair of bucket seats, wheels, and possibly a lot more.

So, next job is to finish stripping the Cresta, and take it to the dippers, then weld what's left into a Cresta shape, fit a roll cage and the engine/gearbox, plus something a bit beefy at the back end. A 9" ford axle would be ideal, but I do have a spare jag back end which will fit nicely (hopeful).

This'll be fun :) :)
 
The Camaro's key has broken, the battery is flat, and it's been standing outside for 18 months, so not starting at the moment. I want to hear it running before I start tearing things to bits, so I'm hoping for a new key in the next couple of days, and Haynes are sending me a manual :)
 
Had a go at stripping it down. Some was already done, but managed to get the doors fully stripped, interior has gone, front crossmember including engine and box. Fuel tank emptied and removed, some of the rear axle bolts undone.

Someone told me that if you disconnect everything and undo the four bolts, you can lift the front of the body off the front crossmember.

Didn't seem right to me but have forklift will try anything once :)

Well that worked :)

Just the rest of the dash, read axle, steering column and a few odd brackets left.
 
Are you putting a 3.5 lump in there to match the wheels?

No, it's an L99 Chevy small block. The wheels are from the burnt out P6B I bought a few years ago. I didn't know that the Cresta has the same PCD.
 
Two months gone by, nasty gout flare up followed by Achilles tendonitis and a couple of other things, just back on my feet and back at it :)

I have managed to get the rear axle out with the help of my son, then onto other stuff. My main concern now though is the amount of builders foam in the car, I think the PO may have had a black friday deal on the stuff. It's up behind the dash encapsulating some of the wiring loom, both A Posts are full of it

Both sills are full of it, you can see it back near the front spring hanger

It's even managed to get into the heating ducts, and dropping out of the O/S dash.

I was hoping he did it to drop noise levels but the bracket which held the drivers side door strap in the A Post was badly twisted, so I think it has corroded away. I have mentioned that I was going to have the shell dipped, but have been told by many that it isn't a good idea, but seeing this lot, I think it's the only way, so onward with the stripping out :)
 
Why do people think that liberally applying that stuff is ever a good idea. Especially in a car!

I think dipping is probably your best (only?) option unless you want to spend the next 6 months trying to chisel it all off.
