Conversion to Electronic Ignition

Mine's still got points, I didn't know it was that easy to convert. I just put a new good quality battery and coil in it, so maybe worth considering. Good info, cheers all.
 
hi does anyone know someone in romford or surrounding area that can supply and fit electronic ignition and come to me as I am looking to get one fitted to my 1964 rover p6 2000 sc
 
Inerested in doing an HEI system one day, but a couple of questions come to mind. Several systems use a much taller dizzy than std - will these clear a p6B bonnet? Is there an easy way to get one with an appropriate advance curve for whatever CR our engine might have ?

What do you mean by HEI? You can use the standard SD1 distributor and replace the Lucas module with the GM HEI module - I know because that's what I'm running. This means you can use 0.3ohm e-core coils - but I haven't done this yet.
 
Don't know what that is. But it will be the later female drive. I use a 35D from Powerspark. It came with a Lucas module mounted on the side. I just remote mounted the HEI module. It triggers it fine.
 
Can you get an SD1 dizzy to connect to a P6B oil pump drive? My SD1 unit's advance plate is marked '8' - what should an SD1 vitesse advance plate show , anybody?That number will be dizzy degrees wont it, not crank degrees ?

I ordered it with the correct earlier drive. Apparently you can swap it yourself but it'll need someone to confirm that. no idea on the advace.

Looks like it is a normal dizzy gear with a hole drilled and a pin inserted to engage the P6B oil pump tang. I asked once before how long a P6B oil pump shaft was ,compared to an SD1 shaft at 98mm from top to top face of gear - was given 115mm. See pic below of an SD1 dizzy in place in an SD1 front cover - to my eye there is more than 7mm between the shaft top and the gear. Is the 115mm correct for a P6B pump shaft?

Based on the fact that when I fitted the adaptor for a P6B dizzy to go into an SD1 front cover and engage the oil pump shaft I had to cut back the dizzy shaft male tang only 4-5mm so I could fit the roll pin to hold the adaptor inside the gear, the shaft must be long enough to reach inside the bottom of the gear......or Simonbbc's adaptor would not work.

FWIW the advance plate on the 10.5:1 CR dizzy is stamped '13'. Gap to pin is just under 1/4" , around 6mm.
 
I have got a 1970 Series 1 P6 3500 fitted with a Lumenition system.

It works fine except that the rev counter is waving. I understand that the Smiths RVI counter does not really work with the induction signal.

I have been recommended to get it rebuilt to RVC specification but would like to have advices if there is any other way.
