clutch assembly.

Is it possible to remove the clutch assembly from a P3/75 sedan with out removing the gearbox. awaiting any advice thanks in anticipation, best regards Derrick.Smith.

No, not without getting the gearbox input shaft out of the clutch plate. IIRC the gearbox comes out up through the interior - remove the gearbox cover, disconnect the prop shaft, support engine on a jack, unbolt bell housing from the engine, disconnect clutch operating link, lift box clear of rear mount, draw gearbox backwards, lift out. Easier with pass seat removed probably.

Pretty rare car that could do that without dropping the gearbox - the manual versions of Porsche 928 can do it because they have a transaxle at the rear, and a funny short shaft at the front clutch with a joiner to the actual drive shaft. Probably the 924/944 also.
Why do you need to do the clutch - just plain worn out?

Well i am not sure, some times on take off (may be that is to strong a quote) it has a real shudder. Derrick.

Checked the prop shaft UJs? That would be a much easier and cheaper job.
Yes have checked all those and very firm with no play I am wondering if part of the problem could be the rubber pad for the support bracket that feels a bit on the soft side, i have another one in the shed some where might try replacing it. Derrick.

On the P3 we had I found it very difficult to understand how the clutch throwout linkage worked - worn linkage might be worth checking for ? Do you have any documentation on the P3?

Thanks again for your input, yes i have a spare parts list and a workshop manual, i think you need some engineering skills to decipher the linkage workings. Derrick.
