Chrome Panel Strips

Can someone please tell me if the chrome trim strips on the body panels are the same for all models? I have my eye on a full set on ebay but are listed as for a Series 2 while my car is a Series 1 NADA 3500S. They look to be the same but hope to confirm the holes will line up. Also is the asking price of GBP 150 seem reasonable? I have seen used strips but not new. Thanks for any assistance.

There are two types. Series 1 "narrow" and series 2 which are much wider (twice?). Series 1 "narrow" are almost exclusively on export models including the NADA and hence are more difficult to source. In principle you could specify a new car in the UK with the early type but I never saw one.

Used series 2 strips are not worth much because being stainless steel and all cars have them they are really common - every "breaker" will likely have a set. At £150 I'd hope they were a freak NOS set - but as long as they aren't bent, there would be no reason to favour new ones.

There are no "holes" as such, they clip on to body clips which are fitted to a hole in the panel. The spacing of these doesn't matter so much. I have fewer holes for alignment, then a bit of carefully applied body sealer is used to secure them. The series 1 clips are common to the lower sill trim on Triumph 2000s.

I actually have a nearly complete narrow set for spares. I got them from Chrisw.

NADA cars, except the 3500S, got the same narrow trim as the rest of the world. They were optional, but NADA cars almost always had the trim from the factory, while they were much rarer in the UK.

The NADA 3500S had wide trim, but I'm not sure if that became the series 2 trim.

Looking at that set on ebay, I think that's a fair price for NOS. Sadly, my expertise is the 4 cylinder series 1 NADA cars so I can't say fo sure they will fit, but I'd bet a small amount they will.

Thanks for weighing in Vern, always am glad to have your opinion.

Thanks Clive, very useful to know, see you have a 3500S "under restoration" aka "open yer wallet" especially here in the states!
