Charging problem

Car is not charging battery, alternater is putting out 13 .5 vault on tick over.
Confused because I see dynamo attached to passengers inner wing.
Very grateful for any help.cheers

A little confused by your description, is it a generator (dynamo) or an alternator.
Generators tend to be a little low in output volts at low rpm.

check again but this time at the battery, its quite possible for an alternator to show a charging voltage but connection issues mean you dont see it at the battery,

why do you say its not charging? is it because you are suffering from a flat battery, that could be a charging issue, a drain on the battery or even a knackered battery

another problem folks, exchanged my original alternator for the all singing all dancing new type, these only use 3 wires, (small block at rear of alternator). I am Instructed to do away with the other wire?
Problem, no reading on the gauge, turn on headlights gauge shows discharge,
Rev engine, no movement towards a charge
Thanks
Brian

If this is an ACR alternator, the two big terminals are connected to battery positive, usually on the starter solenoid input from the battery, the small one comes in from an ignition controlled supply, through the IGN warning light. Without the warning light supply the alternator won't work.

Thanks for that Harvey,
So the independent fourth wire on an original alternator, I take it, is from the ign. warning light?
So, of the three left in the multi block, one of which is thinner, should I have removed the thinner one and replaced it with the one which had a separate connection, which I am under the illusion is the warning light.
Hope this makes sense

No, it just senses battery voltage, nothing to do with the warning light.

I don't understand what you mean by that, I can only refer you back to my previous posting where I explained the wiring to and from the 3 pin multiplug.

Ok now,
Original alternator had three wires to a multi plug, and one separate
New alternator just has the three wire plug to fit in the socket leaving the fourth wire obsolete??
If this is correct, My charging problem lies elsewhere.
Harvey, how do I find your original post.

Another query. Behind the fuel temp / gauge is a round, I think a condenser, Dubilier 150v. DCWKG Type SV. I cannot get any reading or continuity.
Some thoughts on this please
Regards
Brian

sorry mate, can't get my head around all this modern jargon, #9?.
anyway it seems my "condenser" is a radio suppressor, so in fact the fuel / temp gauges should run without it
Is there a way to check the condition of said suppressor?
regards

To continue my alternator problem,
Having taken out the original unit, 18 ACR, and replacing with 11AC, Start engine, fast tick-over, no problem, side lights, no problem, turn on headlamps with the same revs, loud screeching from alternator, and unit gets really hot, (note still running at the same revs}
Sent the alternator back to supplier, was told no problem any where, could be loose belt, I am 83, been a maintenance fitter since I was 18, if I had a pound for every belt I have fitted, I would be a very rich man, so I know the belt was not slipping. Has anybody else exchanged a alternator and had problems?
P.S. This bloody car is battling me all the way
Regards
Brian

hello Harvey,
My original alternator was on the blink, I was led to believe by the vendors the new version, had a better output, and was in fact a much better unit (But, does retrograde mean an inferior type)
Having sent my views to the vendors, I await their response to an official request to their report
regards
Brian

Re-reading your original posting, you have changed an 11AC for an ACR, not the other way around, so that wouldn't be a retrograde step if that is the case. But if you have done that, how have you modified the wiring to accept the new alternator?
