Changing the rear oil seal

I have a 1970 P6 3500S and my rear oil seal needs replacing.I have a new one from Winns which is in 2 pieces.I am assuming the oil sump has to be removed and the rear main bearing cap.Has anyone done this and if so can they offer any advise.I am not sure why its in 2 pieces and I am not sure how they seal with the gap between the 2 pieces.Any advise would be appreciated.

The standard seal isn't long enough to be pulled around the top of the crank when using the Chinese finger tools. The ends of the seals mate together, nothing more. There are seals on the sides of the rear main cap.(Two types)
If you do a search this had been covered before.
It's worth checking all the crank bearing shells, because when they wear , particularly the rear one, you lose pressure out of the side which can overcome the seal.
