Central Locking on P6 - Can it be done

Hi Everyone,

Is there anyone on this Forum with a P6 that has central locking set up for their boot.

I need help....I have had central locking fitted to my P6 but the installer could NOT fit it to my boot.

Thanks

I've got central locking on the doors on mine, but i agree with Richard, if you want to do the bootlid i reckon you need to start again with lock design. It didn't bother me enough to warrant the expenditure of effort. Best advice would be to spend a lot of time in scrapyards looking at arrangements on other cars! I like the idea of a remote release though!

Hi Guys,

Thanks for the interest in my topic.

I am trying to be able to simply push the button on my central locking remote and be able to unlock the boot as I walk up to the car. Being able to have the boot unlock AND release itself remotely is nice but NOT a big deal for me.

Regards

I've had a look at the lock design now and the main problem is that it is a rotating barrel which simply engages a plunger when unlocked, to be able to centrally lock/unlock it you would need to be able to rotate the barrel externally, the standard lock doesn't have provision for this.
Other than modifying the lock, you are a bit stuck. You could still have remote release, either from inside the car or from a second button on your fob, but the boot would remain locked as such.
Funilly enough that is roughly how the boot lock on my 800 works, you can open it with the key or from an interior release button.

One other thing you could do if you wanted to be really clever, hook up a servo/solenoid to the petrol cap lid lock so that is centrally locked too.

Does someone do central locking kits for the P6 or are you all hardcore engineering types that make your own stuff?

I have been driving an MGBGT for the last 2 years. Getting parts for those is easyer than many modern cars, so P6 ownership has been quite a shock to the system!

Getting my 4 doors central locked seemed to be very straightforward for the 2 shops that gave me quotes.

Both shops were of the view that the boot would be a challenge and thus it proved so for the shop that I eventually went with.

JC - In the UK you can just buy central locking kit from maplin Maplin Link , for £21.99 this will give you central locking from the drivers door lock, if you want remote central locking then you'll also need an alarm with a central locking output, or if you just want central locking you can just buy a remote receiver kit from maplin for £25.99

This doesn't help Gully with the boot lock though !

I believe the NADA cars had central locking, don't know if that included the boot, Ian ? ? ?

hi,
no NADA cars never had central locking, everything else and beleive it they were loaded with stuff, the option was air-con which i find it hard to believe going to such warm climates.

It's not all balmy climes and gentle zephyrs.

There are parts of the US (parts of Washington state for example)where 75 degrees in old money is a relative scorcher. A/c wouldn't see much use in these places.
