carpet removal

ordered a new carpet as old one way past usability. all went well until I tried to get carpet out from under the part where speaker ought to be fitted .it has removable section with V8 on it and all seems Ok other than carpet will not slide out from under the black plastic frame. cannot see anything holding Fram in to dashboard ( must be a few bolts?) do not want to damage it . what am I missing ? looked in rover p6 book and Haynes manual but no joy ( bugger) app to be told idiot and there an X Y or z screw ? located? any pics welcome. too

You need to remove the centre section. There should be screws front and rear and holding it to the dash/parcel shelf. You will need to disconnect the heater control levers as well, and the choke and reserve cables, unless they will allow it to move enough to get the carpet out.

Thanks Harvey .I removed glovebox(s) and found 2 screws . Removed and loosened choke and reserve off on the panel. managed to pull old carpet out but agree heater controls will problem need removing .sadly found one ( I probably broke it trying to wriggle panel) broken fork? of heater box so probably nee dot remove heater box now and repair that too! the joys of old cars .
