Hi, As you say you're restricted for room so I'm not sure it will fit. However for years I used a Gunson carbalancer -

I also appreciate where you're located so maybe difficult to get one. Have you tried a length of tube, one end by the intake and the other near your ear and listening to the sound, with a little practice it's just as effective, and saves you fifty odd quid.;)

I have one of these and used it to balance the HS8 on my V8, it worked superbly well.
The HS8 have the cranked adaptors fitted to the body to allow the elbows to fit on. I can take one off and hold the balancer directly on the carb and photograph it next to a tape measure if you like ?
Then you will know how much room you need.

cobraboy, that would be most helpful, yes i have used the tubes before, my hearing isnt as good as used to be 20 yrs playing in pipeband. the Uni-Syn had one before, the advantage with one that fits inside leaves your hands free.

OK it's not easy is it .....
For starters I have the SK version with narrower rubber snout, it wont go in the carb body direct as the rubber hits the air slide before filling the hole. It works on the elbow adaptor though.
So I pulled the rubber snout off the balancer and the body of the balancer has a nice square face that butts nicely to the carb body and should seal ok with a bit of vaseline or grease. The distance from the carb body to the rear of the balancer is 85mm.

Hello

Measuring the airflow might affect the air flow, so I use something like this:

Decibel meter

Just be consistent in positioning on the inlet and I reckon it's a good option - better than the various tubes and gauges I have tried. You also get an actual number. Maybe one could debate the noise volume versus airflow relationship but you can dial it in to the db.

Ban306, thanks for the tips. on the rover I have always found the adjustment screws somewhat difficult for the back carb very little room. in that they are a double nut to loosen off, some that just have the spring to apply tension easier, but one has to realise over the years they can become rounded and the threads worn. looking at my carbs yesterday I will have to take off the filter bracket because the mounting studs for the air filter are in the way, but it is only four bolts.
