Carburettor 2000 SC re fitting question.

When I refitted my carburettor last week, I did not put a card gasket between the manifold and the carburettor adapter. Primarily because I don’t think there was one there when I removed it, and it does seem to have a sort of metal gasket on the back of the adapter itself. ( now it is all back in situation, I can clearly see that so I’m not suffering brain fade…..or am II?!?) However, I woke in the night in a cold sweat and when I checked the book, it says there should be a gasket. However, it’s not shown in the diagram attached. Do we think that the adapter has its own metal gasket already in place, or should I take it all off and put a card one there too? Hope that all makes sense. I should add that my carburettor is different from the one in the diagram as I think that’s an earlier model and I have a 1973 engine… Thank you in advance for any advice…..

Does the metal plate have a serrated inner edge? I believe that’s used to help create turbulence at lower airflows.

You can easily make your own gasket from gasket paper and a sharp craft knife. Most decent auto factors should have the gasket paper available to buy.

Having a good air tight seal between the carb and the engine is critical in getting the best performance from the car. Any vacuum leaks here can adversely affect mixture at load.
