Can he fix it? Yes he can!

IMG_3819a.jpgFinally come to the realisation that I don't have the skills or resources to deal with this beauty, so off we go to Colin Gould (Kingsdown Classics) to see what he thinks about it. As it turns out there's not much (if anything) on a P6 that he can't do (cills made of Weetabix included!), so the car is now in his tender loving care. His associate has promised to provide a photo diary of the horrors uncovered and how they are resolved. Will post pictures as received.

Contacted Colin this week and it appears he's made a start on CKJ 172K, and what fun he's having with it. While it seems there is nothing he can't fix, the poor old car was in a terrible, terrible state. Driver's side nearly complete. He's been working on the rotten bulkhead and front suspension mounts yesterday and today. Near-side and general tidy up underneath still to come. Budget has been smashed to smithereens due to parlous state of cills, floor and bulkhead, and I won't now be able to get him to renew the suspension as I had originally hoped. We will however have a completely solid base unit by the end of it. Objective is to get through an MOT and drive the car a bit; then make it look pretty over the coming months and years as funds permit.

Sadly I have no idea exactly what part of the car this is - possibly that's the back wheel visible in the backgrounds - whatever it is it doesn't look good.

View of the front of the bulkhead where the bracket which supports the throttle arm should be attached but no longer is. The channel at the bottom of the windscreen had rotted away and water had been pouring over the heater box and settling on the bulkhead - hence rusty mess.

Driver's side end of bulkhead under steering box. Not sure there's supposed to be a hole here :(

Ooooooooh! This looks a bit better. Posh new inner wing. Also, it seems that the suspension arm was not connected to anything solid enough to support it.

The new cills and box sections are made in steel approximately 50% thicker than the original, so final result should be very strong. I have now ending skills or knowledge, but to my untrained eye this looks beautiful.

It's taking a while to reduce the size of the pics so they'll upload - will post some more tomorrow, including the work on the bulkhead which is interesting to say the least!

Colin in very good, all the holes will be filled except the one in your bank balance!
It is starting to come together, and will look great in the end. :)

Offside rear wheel arch from the front. I love looking at this work - wish I had welding skills!

Bulkhead in parlous state due to failure of lower windscreen channel. Channel and heater box replaced already, but bulkhead beyond my skills. Not beyond Colin's however.
