C02 cylinder

There have been 2 pub CO2 gas cylinders on the ground at my local recycling centre for the last few days.About 3' long and 5" dia . I've "rescued" one. It's empty but is it any use to have refilled with welding gas for my MIG ?

Yes, if you can get it refilled, (or swapped for a full one by a friendly pub landlord) then you can use it on a MIG. CO2 is not as good as Argon mix but it's certainly good enough. The only problem you might have if they've been lying around a long while is if any date stamps they might have on them are out of date.

We use 5 litre cylinders for compressed nitrogen at work and i know that all cylinders, especially alluminium alloy ones have an expiry date.
They have to be pressure tested every 2 years if i remember correctly by a suitably certified workshop, usually at the place that fills them up.
If you can get them for free, then you could check them, but perhaps there is a reason why they dumped them in the first place.

Surely Kegwatch is primarily aimed at beer kegs, not CO2 cylinders.
Our local friendly co2 cylinder supplier has no problem exchanging cylinders, although he does check the date mark.
Makes no difference to the replacement, I just think he needs to know if it needs recertifying before he refills it.
