BW35 gearbox mount.

The last time I had my BW35 gearbox serviced I was told that I need to replace the gearbox mount, as the old one has broken down somewhat. I have bought the mount, and looking at the diagrams it looks like I can support the box, undo the two nuts which hold the shaft for rear mounting to base unit. Then take off the cross member (the one that the spring sits on) after having undone the third bolt. I should then be able to slide out the shaft.

The question I have is how easy will it be to slide out the old mount and slide in the new one. Is this do able in the rather tight confines underneath car. Will it slide out with fingers, or will more persuasion need.

I guess this must be the same doughnut mount as the 4 cyl manual, and it is bl**dy tight into the gearbox.
It was very difficult to change it with the gearbox out of the car, i imagine that with the gearbox on the car it is just impossible.

I think you'll have to remove the tailshaft housing to enable you to press the old bush out, and the new one in. The housing comes off quite easily but you'll need a new gasket for it, (there are two types) and it might be an idea to change the tailshaft seal while it's out as well.

On a V8 the bush sits in its own separate housing so just removing that makes things a lot easier.

I do have a tailshaft housing if you wanted to fit a new bush to that and then just swap them over to save time. What a shame you're in Oz! (Only just noticed that.....)

Would this be the correct extension housing gasket?

If it is not would you have a BW part number thanks Harvey?

What OD would I need for the seal? I have three sizes listed, 1 61/64, 2 3/8 and 2 1/4. I have a feeling that I need 1 61/64. Here is the link from my part supplier:

If these are not right then do you have a BW part number also?

Thanks for your help,

James.

I got my auto gearbox mount replaced, as well as a transmission service. There was one hitch though. I had a 3500 gearbox mount, which are 57mm in diameter. The 2000 gearbox mount are 47mm in diameter. The auto trans guy was getting a little apprehensive. He made one phone call and was told that the correct part would have to come from the UK. I got one sent overnight from Melbourne, and we got it sorted out. He needed a press to get the new one in. I did get the extension housing seal replaced at the same time.
