Less than 3 weeks since my epic journey to bring Frazer's 3500 home

I had to make a considerably shorter journey (40 miles round trip) to bring home another P6

Some of you will recognise the car from the thread in the "Cars Spotted" section. viewtopic.php?f=17&t=17534

Basically a 1964 registered 2000, still pretty much as it left the factory with the odd blemish added just for character :) Got her home today but after sitting for 26 years in a garage in Aberdeen she is unfortunately still on the trailer as the fuel pump has decided its not keen on drawing fuel through to the carb anymore and pushing her off the trailer on my own didn't seem like a good idea
The car went through the local auction last Saturday but the highest bidder decided for some unexplainable reason the high bidder said that he had bid on the wrong Rover the only other one in the sale was a very smart P5! Easy mistake
So because I had left a bid on the Friday when I went to view the car I got a phone call late Sat. afternoon asking me if I wanted the car for the hammer price which I wasn't keen on, so their next offer was to pay what I had left in my proxy bid, which seemed a better idea to me  So in the space of a day I had gone from looking at an interesting car for everyone else to actually owning said car! Still not sure how it all happened but couldn't be happier even though I have found a bit of rot in the drivers side sill around where one of the screws holds on the outer sill. Managed to open it up enough to get a finger through so will have to see what awaits me under the outer sills but after giving the rest of the sill areas a good prodding with a weighty screwdriver nothing else gave way yet!!

Took lots of pics of bits and pieces on the Friday this was the most worrying one at the time a mouse nest under the drivers side rear seat and definitely been damp at some point

But further investigation today proved that it was crusty but still solid underneath

Still a bloody mess!! when compared to the passenger side under the rear seat

Need to get a repair/rebuild kit for the fuel pump and have seen this one on ebay is this what I need? - http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Rover-P6-2000 ... 3a851b2887
Need to sort a few other things like a leaking water pump have been promised the second hand one the seller ordered before he put the car into the auction but not sure second hand is the way to go??
Any way a long road ahead of me but looking forward to it whatever it may through up and at least I have dry secure storage so no real hurry but would be nice to be on the road for next summer cheers Tam

Re: DAMN! It happened again!

that looks lovely - a bit of hard work and you'll resurrect it :)

Re: DAMN! It happened again!

is the mess under the seat just surface? difficult to tell from the pictures :)

Re: DAMN! It happened again!

Yes just surface well probably lost some surface but fairly vigorous abuse with a screwdriver couldn't burst through!!
She has 2 contrasting sides some of the car is just like brand new including most of the boot apart from a bit on the floor where dampness has occurred and it looks messy but just surface rust as well. The tool kit is all their unused the tyre pressure gauge is even still in the plastic!! But things like the leather needs a good clean and re stitched in bits. Need to sort mechanicals first though !!

Re: DAMN! It happened again!

Tam, When you have captured all the P6's still in the wild in Scotland, are you intending to start a breeding programme?

Re: DAMN! It happened again!

Tam,
I'm pleased to see that there will be a Wedgewood Blue P6 driving round Kirriemuir. I always liked the colour as my Father's first p6 was that colour and was garaged in Kirriemuir and driven in that area from 1965 to 1967.

I would have loved to have bought your restoration project but unfortunately have neither the garage space or time.

Hector

Re: DAMN! It happened again!

lovely car and nice to see the lack of rot.

Looking forward to seeing it.

Colin

Not much happened on this project yet! The car is safely stored away alongside Frazers old P6 and assorted old Landrovers (not mine). Have purchased a few bits( whole different bunch of spares from the V8 :D ) Main bits being a new water pump and a new fuel pump also a replacement correct window washer bottle and pump (untested!)
Still not even got the sill covers off to see the extent of the rot but hopefully won't be to bad and no shocks
Spoke to the previous owner of the car today on the phone, turns out he is a retired professor of Physics and has very fond memories of the car as it was actually his wifes car becoming his when she died in the 80's. He is getting on at 88 years old but looking forward to seeing the car on the road (so am I) and has invited me up to visit his garden which is rated as one of the best in Scotland. He did remember when the car was due to be delivered in June 64 that the dealers would not deliver it to Aberdeen due to a Typhoid outbreak  in the city and he had to travel south to Stonehaven to pick it up  He is going to look out some old photos of the car from back in the day for me to scan as well which will be good!
Now that we have the extension at the house finished i must get some time spent on the old girl and see what sort of timescale for getting on the road will be, no time soon going by my mechanical experience

I've not seen this thread before - what a find & well done!

Compared to the condition of my '64 2000, those box sections under the rear seats just make me weep.. If they're as good as that, the rest of the car will be better than most as well :D

Do you know its chassis number? Mine is 3607A, registered on 6th May 1964.

Me neither and I'm jealous to say the least. It doesn't look like it needs much to make it into a cracking car.

Thanks for the positive comments fella's i do feel privileged and a little apprehensive to own such a low mileage unmolested car. Just got to find the money to get on with it now :?
Phil the last four digits of the chassis number are 2667 and was registered 03/06/64 so a month after yours! Would be nice to have an idea of how many older survivors there are but i guess its almost impossible with cars turning up every now and again. This one had been garaged since 87 till about 2010 then passed through a couple of guys until it turned up in October last year for auction and now resides with me for the long term i hope :D

We have some idea..

My Wedgie (179) is chassis 3105, first registered 28 April 64.

They weren't registered in order, as Rover registered three cars on 28 April 64. 178 is chassis 2908, 179 is chassis 3105, 180 is chassis 2549.
