Went for a spin yesterday and after an hour of running sweet as you like it just cut out 3.5 miles from home bugger! No spark at plugs I had a spare rotor arm but still no luck. The points have been replaced with Powerspark electronic jiggerypokery so the plan today is to put the old points and coil back on and see how that goes. I have a multimeter but to be honest I'm dont really know how to use it properly  Any suggestion are welcome.

I had a similar problem last year which turned out to be the wire from fuse box to powerspark ignition had come adrift.

Hope its an easy fix for you.

Thanks but I dont have a wire to the fuse box just to the coil + which I know still has power with the ignition on. Still, nice morning for it :D

I am impressed that your using the old girl in this weather, I cant bring myself to take the car out in fear that the salt will leave me with a brown pile of dust where once my car stood.

Pete

Any excuse to get away from the kids Pete :D but seriously its a better weather for a spin this morning but eating a sausage sandwich while the battery is charging aint no hardship :D

How long ago did you install the powerspark kit? if its recently did you bypass the ballast wire so it sees 12v permenantly?

All sorted (i think) Charged the battery and fitted the old points Bingo! Will probably refit the powerspark points next weekend to see if it was them or mabaye the battery is on its way out it does seem not to crank all that great although isn't that old. I'm not up to speed on ballast resistors but only plus and neg wires on the coil and a live from the powerspark when fitted . It did seem to run alright for a while like this but for some reason yesterday it cut out with no spark at the plugs or kinglead. If it continues to run ok this week I will probably get a new set of normal points and stick with them , mabye a new battery for these cold mornings.

you may be running the system at the wrong voltage if you've just fitted the powerspark into the standard wiring (the wire itself is the ballast resistor) loom.
