Brand new Pilkington's windscreen

Hi All

Has anyone had a brand new windscreen from Pilkington's glass?

They show it on there web site and have enquired about a cost but haven't heard back yet.

Fingers crossed its not too expensive and they can do sundym.
 
I got a new one for my p5 a few years ago, it was tinted and good fit so expect the P6 will be the same. I got mine through a local screen fitter, got it within 10 days. made to order.

Let us know how much they are.

They provide a good service, and are of good quality. I have a brand new one, waiting to be fitted.

The cost was just over £500, but I did have a few special requirements.

Do you need a new one? There are plenty of second hand ones around, for 1/5 that amount.

I've recently replaced 'Hazel's' screen with a new one. I think it's worth the money to buy a new laminated screen. If you've ever experienced a toughened one go 'bang' when driving, you'll know what I mean! Not pleasant & not at all safe either...

If you are lucky, you might get a used laminated screen at a bargain price, although after 40 years they tend to start de-laminating & go cloudy at the edges.

I like the idea of a brand new screen, no scratches or chips and it will finish the car off.

Called Pilkington's and the cost for a sundym screen is around £270.00+Vat for the screen, £25.00 Delivery plus cost of fitting.

6-8 weeks lead time though.

Not too bad on the cost, think I will order one soon.

Price it via an independant fitter. My p5 screen was made to order for £125 , it was a few years ago but even then that is a bit of a hefty prices with the VAT.

The difference a new screen makes is amazing though.

Bit of an old post this but we have a customer with a P6 wanting to upgrade to a laminated screen. Have asked our usual supplier for a cost. will post when we hear back.
 
I got a trade deal at the show, but it was 18 months ago now and I am sorry but I cannot remember.

I will see if I have the bill and if I do will let you know.
 
Windscreens and their pricing is a real mystery to me. When I brought the 928 into Oz (early 03) the testing on screens meant you had to replace almost all of them . Under A$200, which I think is good value for low volume car (65k total) out of production in 95. Was in stock, as it was done quickly, apologized that only one tint was available. In USA where most 928s now live they continually whinge about the cost being upwards of US$400. We used to have a Pilkington factory here, but its probably gone now we dont make cars anymore. Will start checking out screen availability for the P6 now.
