Brake shield removal

How do you remove the front brake shields from the uprights? With the hubs off, I can access the fixing bolts, but with those removed, the shields are still stuck fast. Is it just a case of them being stuck with rust and need a bit levering behind, or are they securely pressed on there? I don’t want to damage them as they don’t seem to be available new any more, but I’d like to remove them to paint them.

Thanks

I could have sworn there were two.

I think you'll find that there are two that fit into the bracket that is held on by the caliper mounting bolts, and then one that either screws into the pillar from the outside, or screws through the pillar into a captive nut on the brake shield from the inside. Or you may find it's a nut and bolt where threads have been stripped previously. Either that, or I'm losing the plot.....

As Harvep6 says, my 2200 parts list is showing 2 fixings per shield to the calliper and one into what looks like a thread insert in the shield , possibly from the pillar

Sparky didn't have any when I bought him, but I found a pair on ebay. This is when I discovered there were two types, one where the single fixing (Apart from the two caliper bolts) was a captive nut on the shield, and the other where there is just a hole in the shield and a thread in the hub.

Ah, that'll teach me to read properly! It was the two into the caliper that I was thinking of - I hadn't registered that they'd already been removed. Sorry.

Great, thanks all. Fixings into the caliper are already removed. Just the ones behind the hubs to undo, then I can try persuading them to release from the upright. The photos are helpful, as it shows where I should be looking for the joint line.
