Bop-Bop-Bop...

It's a while since I've posted, due to other projects taking over in the last few months. However, BOP is getting attended to once again & I've actually completed the O/S/R repairs & refitted the partly re-sprayed wing & all is looking good. Fortunately, that was the worst corner & my progress with the N/S should be relatively swift!

Here she is with wing on & re-sprayed replacement wings on the roof!

Just to update; another month has passed & I'm almost finished at the n/s/r with the wing almost re-fitted. I'll post a pic or two soon.

I'm starting to think about MOT time & have to replace all the tyres. What would you guys recommend? I'm purely after 'standard' tyres with good all-weather handling.

Here's the n/s/r wheel arch almost ready for the wing to go back on:

great to see - i'd just look on the car tyre sites, find out what's good value, then phone round local tyre centres to find who'll match the price.

Great work indeed. With regard to tyres, please take care to ensure you get car tyres and not van tyres. If you go on Black Circles for example, they'll have loads of tyres of the correct size but very very few that are suitable for cars.

I ordered my Vredestein Sprint Classics from MyTyres in the end and had them fitted by a local independent garage.

Johnny is right. I also bought the Sprint Classic, it´s the perfect choice if you are looking for a "Classic Look" tyre also and in 185 HR 14 with a very competitive price. It´s also (beside the classics from Michelin) first choice for fast cars using VR tyres but here the same tyre´s price is for one what you are paying for 4.
No, I don´t start the tube discussion...

Thanks Guys. I think it will be the Sprint Classic. Presumably they handle well & have acceptable noise levels?

The Sprint Classic is definitely the weapon of choice for our cars and the Triumph Stag amongst others. Noticeable improvements in both steering feel, grip and noise levels when compared to my previous tyres. They look the part too

Just been doing a bit more welding of late. I'm now on the last 'corner' - the near side front. These are the 'before' & 'after' pictures of the front of the footwell:

Also, the rear near side work has been completed.

I've not posted for a few weeks, but have been inspired by the excellent work that Mark (drabbers) is doing

Here's what I've been up to; like Mark it's been the front inner wing, splash panels etc, but now I'm onto the join in the V8 under-bonnet recesses. The corrosion looked normal to start with but I soon ended up with a big hole. :( I have been building up the repair from several pieces to try & replicate the original construction & don't have much to do now.

One of the bits I have made up is shown. I just have another piece to make & weld, then the seam sealing & weatherproofing etc. After that, it's just the 'hockey stick' repair section to go in & then ALL the welding is finished! It's only taken me 18 months..... after the 3 years spent at my friend's garage who did much of the sill work on this one (see earlier in this thread).

For once, I'm bringing forward my budgeted welding finale by about 4 weeks, so the wing should be ready to go back on at Christmas!

Tricky little section that. The chap who fixed the same holes on either side of my engine bay told me the replacement sections he made were fiddly and time consuming. Love watching you guys' progress, and hearing how by showing your progress on this forum you motivate each other to get your excellent restorations finished. Keep up the great work.

That section is now finished (well apart from a very thin skim of filler - I hope that's allowed!).

I asked my son, Tom (& heir to this particular car, he tells me!) to take a picture of me plug welding the stiffener to the inner wing's lip, because ....this is the welding actually finished :):

Lots to do yet of course, but I'm actually about a month ahead of schedule for once. I should get this car on the road before Spring. There's the interior to fit, clutch slave cylinder to refurbish & a new set of tyres required. I'm sure it will spend its first year back with its rubbish doors letting it down; I do have a set for it but they're currently Almond, so a full strip down of each will be necessary :(

That's a smart looking repair, very difficult to reproduce that factory look.
On my u/k S when I restored it back in the 80s there were a few more in breakers yards so I managed to find a rust free inner wing/ hockey stick to cut out and weld in.
A bit late for you now but one of the last things I cut out of the spares car was that part you have just repaired
Keep up the great work.
Clive.

I have now almost finished the inner wing repair, in fact it has now had a good coat of 'Shutz' as well.

Whilst working around that area, I thought I'd just post a picture of the info label which I think will be only seen on the early V8S:

IMG_2055edit.jpg
Notice that it does not say 'Rover 3500S Manual', yet it has the manual gearbox lubrication data..

This is the car's chassis number:

IMG_1888.JPG

I don't believe there are perhaps any more than 10 known earlier examples left. I used to have number 668, although this was torched some time ago whilst in a new owner's hands :(

It's a bit like non power steering v8 manual cars had standard 3500 steering wheel & logo and not S.
Clive.

That brings back memories. Love the repair panel.

I hope to get out to some local shows next year, hope to see this around.
