Bop-Bop-Bop...

I use the 5/16 socket, but get to it behind the centre console, By using a couple of 1/4" extension bars or so, and open the driver's side knee bin, you can get to them quite easily and at 90°.

I did try that Richard, but found that the RHS heater lever connection got in the way!

I always say my Rovers are good "10 yard" cars & here's the proof:

I do think it's probably my favourite P6 colour combination, but whilst it's a good car now, it's not quite as good really close-up ;)

Following the 'repair' (screw-tightening) of the heater direction & temperature controls noted above, the on/off & speed control lever started playing up. It became a lottery as to whether the heater would work.

I was fearing having to take the heater box out, but then the direction lever came loose again, so I looked around at both sides of the centre console & saw that the temperature lever's connection's nut & bolt were very loose. So I put my 6 inch multi-bendy fingers on ;) & managed to tighten that up:

Try the simple things first! It now works a treat; obviously there had been too much play in this joint. There is another 'round the corner' so plenty of opportunity for slackness.

It's been a while since I posted but I have been quite busy with other things. However, I haven't forgotten the P6s & they have just kept plodding on with no particular issues, although Hazel's brakes are being rebuilt at the moment (see other thread).

So just another picture of BOP to be going on with:

BOP is getting a little tatty in places but I enjoy using it. I don't mind a bit of rain, but it won't be out in salt!

Lovely...no snow around here. Sidelights are a bit faint? Put LEDs in them, lifts them a treat!

I've had some LEDs in before & the other P6s have them - they are good!

However, BOP has halogen lights now & the outer headlights have a second sidelight bulb in. This means that I have 4 'running lights' to keep up with the other cars on the road.

Not quite head-on, but it shows the idea. :)

Only another picture of BOP - but it's another in the rain. It's my 'excuse' for having less-than-mint cars ;)

No salt, so these outings shouldn't do too much damage & at least I'm enjoying the car.

BOP's battery was not being charged recently & after taking advice from my mechanic friend, the lack of the ignition warning light was apparently to blame.

I took the dashboard apart to clean & tighten the bulb holder's contacts (they are a bayonet fitting) & then did all the bulbs whilst I was on:

You may have noticed that the Rev Counter's needle is a cream colour whereas all the others are white. The dashboard is a bit of a mixture of dials & so I sprayed the needle to make it look like the others:

All done & working well :)

Interesting re the cream coloured needle. Ive owned my P6 since new and its always bugged me the different needle colours in mine .
I wonder if it was a different supplier at the time of the rev counter and speedo needles for the result to be so wrong.
I will correct the cream needle one day when I get a "round tuit".

I've never been able to properly align & adjust BOP's bonnet & one of the reasons is that the O/S buffer is rusted solid. As the bonnet is aluminium, any major force turning it, twists the aluminium too. What have others done? :hmm:

This is it (without the rubber buffer on):

I gave BOP a full service recently as I'd checked the points & noticed that they were this bad......

IMG_6652.JPG

This is one of the reasons that I intend to slim my fleet down a bit - I'm a bit stretched time-wise to keep them all on the road all year round. To give me a shove in the right direction, I have taken Hazel's Rostyle wheels off & put them on BOP as I intend to sell Hazel.

Again, these wheels need another blasting & painting, but they've lasted about 13 years without major refurbishment, so they haven't done too bad. I will also be getting the correct shorter chrome (stainless?) wheel nuts - does anyone have any recommendations, please?

It's quite obvious from the picture above that BOP's front bumper is bent slightly upwards. This has been the case since before I got the car 16 years ago & I've always wondered about trying to bend it straight again. It's possible that it's just an alignment problem, although I can't quite understand how that would be the case with the V8 bracket set up.

I recently thought about replacing it & so I thought I'd have a look at my spares. I've been collecting spare P6 parts for as long as I've had P6s (37 years), but mainly in the earlier years when there were a lot about in scrapyards. In fact, I remember going round a yard in Beverley which had 12 in at once!

This is in the roof space of my garage & I found several front bumpers being 3 x V8 & 2x 4cyl  I suspect they will be straight bumpers only suitable for re-chroming, but I'll have to get them down & have a look. When 'Hazel' had her bump (with 2 super bumpers on, of course) I used a front & back, but these others will have been there for at least 20 years....
