Boot lid won't stay up

The boot lid on my P6 rarely stays open. I've taken to using an old walking stick to keep it open. Are the springs on the hinges adjustable? Or do they need replacing?
The walking stick works but is not a good image really!
Thanks
John

Ive replaced the spring system with a gas filled rear door rod from my local automotive outlet store- in my case "super Cheap"
I weighed the boot lid in its open position using a digital hand held scale [ the sort one uses to weigh your bags for flying. I then just picked up a gas rod for that weight. It sits on the wheel jack side and is pop riveted in place.

now that is taking it to the next level, gas struts would be great on the bonnet and the boot.......

Mine always stayed up until I replaced the boot lid liner (which was missing). Now it sometimes stays up and sometimes doesn’t - I think it depends on whether I am parked on an up or down slope.
So if you weren’t bothered about it, you could always try removing the lid liner? It’s all to do with weight.

if you installed gas struts to the bonnet, would it be best to put one each side and the same with the boot, ( trunk, if in Donald trump Territory )

It must be the original springs getting weak - but there isn’t much of a pattern. Of my 3 cars, one boot won’t stay up, one virtually jumps up & the other is ‘about right’!

.....or does this suggest they can be adjusted in some way?

Thanks for the suggestions. My boot stays open sometimes....as Phil Robson said, it depends on the wind and the angle of the car! I have a boot prop but not the big long bracket the prop sits in. The hydraulic ram idea sounds good. I'll sort something out.
Cheers

Mine wont stay open more than a couple of inches up from closed. Have the spare-on-boot-lid stay, but not keen on using it all the time. Nothing in the manual about adjusting the torsion bar, but will look into it sometime...soonish.
PS - no sign of any sort of adjustment. Will have to wait until I have another reason to remove the lid.

Revisited the boot lid. thought there was an adjustment, but no. Read elsewhere about lubricating the part just behind/above the hinge - bar twists in a 'cup' , and there was visible rust there. A bit wD40, some up/down exercising , all good -stays where i put it, instead of falling on my back or head.
