Bonnet Buffers - 6 per bonnet

I've seen several suppliers offering these bonnet buffers and that 6 are required. That's perplexed me. I've studied my bonnet and can't find any - so obviously mine perished a long time ago and fell off!

What I did see, and this has confused me for ages, is that I have 3 holes on the bonnet on each side (hmmm that equals 6 !) and I never knew what these holes were for. Could these bonnet buffers be a "spacer" between the bonnet and the wing to prevent rubbing/vibration? (hmmm that would keep some of my road noise down too!)

Your help as always is much appreciated.

Bri.

Hi Brian,

You're right, those three little holes each side of the bonnet should have little buffers, that push through the holes. A nice cheap fix, and they stop the bonnet hitting on the front wings.

You know the man for buying new ones!!:D

Brian,

There are also 2 other 'buffers' at the front of the bonnet. These are adjustable legs to steady the bonnet & have rubber feet on them, sometimes which perish.

Cheers,

Phil. :)

Thanks Phil,

I'd noticed those two - of course mine aren't rubber buffers any more - they're two bolts!!

I'll get those replaced at the same time.

Thanks all,
Brian.

For the two buffers at the end of the bonnet you should have two bolts (with spiral cuts in the threads) fitted with locknuts where the rubber buffers fit around the bolt heads. You may find you need to release the locknuts and adjust the two bolts to get the bonnet to sit at the right level at the front when you fit the buffers, as these will make the bonnet stand off slightly from its current position. You may find (as I did) the bolts are wound too far in and the end of the bonnet does not actually bear its weight through the buffers.
