Bodywork - water leaks

Help please, Have series 2 3500. It has previously leaked n/s/f foot well. I thought it may be coming in side seals when driving. It is currently off road stored over winter under tarpaulin, when I opened up in spring it was dry inside. Put smaller sheet over windows thinking it may be the door seals (long matter of elimination) It is now wet again, there seems to be a trace down the bulbous wheelarch area, can anyone suggest/experienced any entry points that are suspect please
Tony Hathaway Epsom Downs.

If there is only a slight trace of water, it could just be condensation forming on the uncovered metal sections under the dash, then running down the sides.

More or less 11 years later I have had the same problem: last summer I parked the car the nose downhill. A couple of days there was heavy rain and when I entered afterwards the car, in the foot space on the right side there was a lot of water.

I suspected the roof - may be it is not really water proof because now I am a bit nervous and so I am thinking there are some wind noises from the right top corner of the wind screen?! What else may be the reason for my problem?

The lower windscreen seal/channel may be leaking. This can allow water to run down the back of the heater and into the car.

Can you remove the front scuttle at the base of the windscreen and look for the rubber channel which should run the entire length of the lower edge of the windscreen. It should be in perfect condition, with no cracks.

Richard

@rockdemon: no, it was closed t this time
@quattro: I thank you so much for your information! It was the number 2 in the list of my suspects.

another place-believe it or not --bonnet hinge mounting point--had a leak on a 1967 2000 I checked under windscreen scuttle-even checked grommets in bulkhead==And was getting all bitter and twisted about in and while having a coffee break and looking at car-it dawned on me to remove bonnet and low and behold there it was-corrosion around the weld nuts --- so if all else fails to find it-look under hinges

Thank you for your hint also so much ! When I start to remove all the things it makes sense to check this too! Yesterday I withdraw the wiper but unfortunately I had no socket wrench in 3/4 inch so i had to stop at working...

Windscreen seals

Guten Morgen

We got no leakage (so far), luckily :)
But as I removed Jimmys heater box I found the above mentioned lower windscreen seal/channel almost rotted to oblivion

So, this has to go, but I am wondering:
Can the INNER lower seal, sitting between dashboard and windscreen (and looking the business indeed!!) be changed without having to remove the screen and/or parcel shelf? It is looking faded, green from alga and cracked, so this might be an opportunity to get in a new one.

I read how to remove the UPPER seal. I would hate to do it but:
How big is the risk of MAKING it leak by taking the screen out and replacing that one?

DANKE,
ANY hint greatly appreciated!!

Hi, I presume you mean the nut holding the wiper mechanism to the body. You do realise that the nut
is 8 sided and not 6. So a open ended spanner is needed, but be careful because they round off easier.

Hi Colin!

Many thanks! No, I didn't! It's a pleasure to be here so my mistakes become limited before they have extreme consequences.

Guten Tag ReinhardP, Presumably you mean the wiper wheel box nuts which can be very difficult to remove! Order two good used nuts, then take your Dremel and with care, grind off the old nuts having first protected the wheelbox threads. Drastic aber ausgezeichnet. Alanj.

Thanks Alan for your Suggestion! In fact, it seems very difficult to unscrew the nuts. So I will keep your advice in mind. The question which is still open is the size of the spanner I have to use.

Guten Abend ReinhardP, Open ended as Colin has stated 3/4" A/F . However, as he has also said they round off easily. You cannot get a socket on as I recall. My way is better if you do it with care. Get the nuts first and you will be able to check the size. Viel Spaß, Alanj.
