BMIHT/ 40 yr free road tax?

British Motor Industry Heritage Trust

Can anyone please tell me exactly what I have to do to claim free Road Tax for my 40 yr old car?

My car is 1974 3500 v8 and will be 40 years old next April 2015. I have applied for & received the certified copy of a factory record for my car, but I don't know what I have to do next. If anyone knows then please advise.

Thanks

Paul

Not quite correct, it has to have been constructed before January 1st 1975, DVLA will accept any vehicle registered before January 7th without further proof.

If it becomes forty years old in April 2015, it won't be eligable for free tax until April 2016. They become tax-free in the April of the year following the year of their 40th birthday.

Many thanks for your replies. However I seem to have caused some confusion as to the age of my car.

My car was according to the BMIHT, Built in May 1974 and first registered October 1974. Therefore my car was 40 years old in 2014! Meaning this year I am eligible for the rolling road of 40 years!

I hope this has helped.

Apologies again for the confusion

Paul
