Bit of a daft thermostat question

Car (2200sc) always ran a bit too cool, so now it's winter its way too cool. Found that the thermostat was jamming open (it was very old looking, and the spring was not returning when cooling, so stuck open. Removal if the cover was a palaver, but nice to see a clean inside, no sludge or 'stuff'). The old thermostat was mounted with the 'jiggle hole' to the front of car. I put the replacement in same orientation (a different style of thermostat but from a rover supplier, so seems interchangable). All sealed up and working as it should, temp now sits in the green zone. But then I got to wondering, us there a specific orientation of the
thermostat as regards the jiggle
pin hole? I'm loathe to take apart again as it's working, but if I have screwed up of course would!

As long as the stat is fitted the correct way around, on a 4 pot the jiggle pin location doesn't matter.

Thanks Harvey! Aye, it's the right way up with the spring bit into the engine. Now I can remove the 'what uf' from my head that always resides immediately after I do anything that actually works. I thought I was beat by the cover for a while though, what a hold on two of the three studs it had! Once the weeping radiator gets sorted then I will declare cooling system done. This old car is going to be as close to perfect as it will ever be by the spring
Much obliged to you
Mick
