bi-metal voltage regulator

Hi All making progress with my 2000 tc converted it to alternator and going through the gauges, both the temperature and fuel gauge are not working, according to the wiring diagram there is a 'bi-metal voltage regulator' [no 58 on the wiring diagram] anyone have an idea where it might actually be! and if you can change it???

if you do change it i'd be looking for a modern equivalent - zener diodes etc as opposed to moving parts....?

, will start looking behind the speedo (mines a series 1)

And I reckon you'll find it.

To give you a clue, it should look something like this:

I might be thinking about something else, but isn't the bi-metal voltage regulator employed so as to ensure that the gauges receive a constant 10 Volt supply? I seem to recall that this is necessary as the do not run with a 12 Volt supply.

Ron.

Hi, yes it's to provide a constant 10v, because the voltage varies too much due to the
alternator charging by altering the voltage so the volt range could be anything from
12.5 V to up to 14V.

I used to build electronic ones many years ago for the Post Office Radio Inspectors Branch here in NZ as the mechanical ones were too electrically noisey the added advantage with the ones I built was you could trim the regulator volts for accurate meter readings.

Without having seen them in the flesh I feel fairly confident electronic 2 terminal regulators can be found

I've retrieved the voltage regulator and it is the same in the picture [cheers Harvey] now I've order the one from the states to replace it [thanks for the link James] the was a loose blue and white wire and the second terminal was free so I connected it and the fuel gauge moved then returned to zero so I'm assuming that it's faulty, no point in putting it back if I can get the replacement. Just a quick question the wiring sequence was green then the terminal which I put the blue and white wire to, then green again then black wire attached to what looks like a suppressor / hopefully someone can one way or the other whether that's correct. Thanks again for the help always appreciated.

Just an update thanks for the advice worked a treat got the part from the uk Moss web site now only thing to get to work is the Horn!
