Hallo,
Just been out to the jam-jar to tighten the fan belt as I noticed it a bit on the slack side the other day. I discovered whilst undoing the top bolt that the tensioner slide has broken clean through in two places! Is this a common fault, and are the ones fitted to P6s all made of plastic/nylon?!
Anyone with a spare one to sell me greatly appreciated, until I can get one blagged from one of my Imps in storage, they`re a bit longer but will do the job....or know of any decent breakers in Bristol area?
Ta, Drew ???

do you mean the alternator bracket with a long hole???if so all the ones I have seen are metal and can be welded with a mig...or find a transit pinto engine and use that its simalar in size..or a mg maestro one is simalar.

oh sorry just looked on a engine on the floor a 2000 sc and thats nylon and broke....the one on my car is metal!!defo as I welded it as it had a crack in it..

If I remember correctly, this was a very rare item, virtually unobtainable twenty years ago!
Surely someone could make a small batch fairly easily from metal.
Regards, John.

how about a bit flat bar, a drill, and a file? I guess even aluminum would be strong enough and a lot easier to work - if your not up to it look for a local fabrication firm or blacksmith or wee firm that makes gates etc - should be simple and cheap for them!

just had a look today more carefully at some p6 engines i got..and all the 2.2 ones have metal bars.and most of the 2.0 ones have nylon.......I measured both the nylon and metal ones and have found out that sierra or transit pinto engines (single overhead cam) are virtually the same in lenght and height there was maybe 1mm diffrence in lenght and a fraction in height and they defo fit on as i tried one just to be sure..
