Has anyone else seen that bonnet badge offered on Ebay whoooah very expensive but brand new if your a serious showman,

Just shows how prices have risen for the most desireable items!
I bought 2 like that in 06 for £25 the pair! :D

There is another one on too which was sitting at £48 last time I looked. I've seen them go for £150 if people are silly enough to pay that much. I have an old one that I might try to take apart and restore too. Worth it for the money these are fetching just now.

Is there any company out there that would consider reproducing these bonnet badges...?! I need one for my S2 V8 (usual problem on mine, cracked plastic, water ingress, knackered!!!) and at over £50 a pop may have to wait... However, if a company could reproduce the item and sell them for say £35 or thereabouts it would be well worth it even if it wasn't an original part... Does anybody out there think the same...?!

Wins advertise them for £19.00. I was going to get one but haven't got round to it yet.

They are 5mm smaller and self adhesive, so not direct replacement parts

Rover Classics were taking orders for new ones but have now stopped as his supplier won't make them? Don't know why.

Perhaps if you get a few people together he might reconsider

Lets have a hand count of who would like one... As per original spec' but reproduction... If we get enough people together, as you say quattro, we may stand a good chance of getting them made (fingers crossed!)

I'd certainly be interested in one. But it would have to be exactly as the original.

There was a company in the uk making them a few years ago but they sold very quickly, even the seconds.

The last I heard that Ian Wilson's supplier was hit by the extreme weather in China the other year, I wanted one too.

It is quick simple to take the old badge apart. just be careful when prising the metal off. I have repainted one in the past and it looked pretty decent. It is best to avoid one which has cracks as the paint will bleed through which spoils it.

There are repro boot badges on ebay and I have just sent a message asking if his supplier would be able to do bonnet badges as well , Waiting for a reply now, Regards, Keith.

Do we need a painted badge with clear top ? Wouldn't a solid plastic insert for the backing be adequate and cheap to produce ?

put me down for a couple, as long as the price isnt off the scale

I am sure we could get some done for within £40-£50... We'll just have to see what response we get in terms of numbers of people wanting repro' bonnet badges...

I have seen clear plastic blanks at shows ready to be painted up!!
If I see them again I will grab them, and, I luckily have a model maker mate who knows what to do paintwise!
Wins are not genuine p6 ones they are either SD1 or a later modern type.
The repro boot badges are metal, and quite frankly are not a patch on a genuine badge, stands out a mile its a repro!
Its the overall cost of setting up the tooling for a limited production run thats stopping the remaking of them, its not really viable!
And if they are made they wont be cheap!
If they do get made in the same way as the repro rear ones they will probably look cheap and be cheap!

Ian had a real sketch with the repro's he was trying to get done. Huge deposit and when the Chinese firm eventually owned up to not being able to do them a huge problem getting it back! And they kept the samples he sent out so now he has nothing to try again with! My own impression was that the sticking point for them had been the way the metal backing wraps around the perspex insert. If weather storms or earthquake were mentioned I think that would simply be eastern attempts not to lose face.

If we are to get credible repro's done then it seems to me we will have to compromise and get the correct size, but without the steel back, and self adhesive. If this is done well and the moulding includes the shape of the steel front wrapover, then I think it should be perfectly acceptable for the vast majority.

Hi all funny i was talking to ian wilson about badges, and it seems that it cost £1000 s to even get a company to consider even trying to copy them, i do know that ian is having another go at a new supplier as we speak, but costs are high, its strange that a badge that was first made in the late 60s is now so difficult to copy in 2009/10.we seem not tobe moving forward that fast.
but i was talking to another rover guy and we were on about clubs that get suppliers to make those parts that are hard to find, ie mg and the like and it would be a good idea if maybe we moved towards that were we found some suppliers willing to make the parts, as im sure the would be profitable to the club
regards
marcus
you can all tell me know that its be tested and failed before lol :D
